AM DECO at work in her own home! Fantastic and fabulously done! Another gorgeous sitting area by AM...THANK YOU FOR THE PHOTOS!!!
Please send posts of your own deco/style...would love to post!
Oly - Elisabeth Entertainment Center - antiqued white one piece entertainment center with antiqued mirror split doors (above). Available at Mecox Gardens for $5,110
Loved this antique white entertainment cabinet from Oly shown above...so I thought I'd try to find a cheaper version too...just to give readers options on a mirrored entertainment cabinet or a mirrored armoire. What I found is that there really isn't a CHEAP TO CHIC on these mirrored storage units...there only seems to be the "chic to chic" out there as far as pricing.
The nice thing, however, about these cabinets is that they are versatile...could dress the wall of a living room, be used for storage of plates and dishware in your dining room, or provide great storage for clothes and linens in the bedroom. The look is both modern and classic...
Here are some other mirrored amoires and media cabinets, in today's CHEAP TO CHIC:
William Sonoma Home - Cleo Armoire by Hickory Chair - $7950 (above) (made of solid maple and cherry veneers)
HW Home - Amsterdam Entertainment Armoire - $3250 (above) (by Michael Weiss for Vanguard, mirrored panel doors shown in Marquis finish)
TIP: Found this white cabinet below...thought maybe someone who had a little time and some creativity could go to their local glass shop and have mirrored panels cut for this armoire and have them glued into place...just a thought.
Ballard Designs - Calonne Armoire - $1444.95 (on sale) (Louis XVI style armoire or media cabinet. Distressed white finish made of hardwood and hardwood veneers) (above)
PLEASE, IF YOU KNOW OF ANY OTHER MIRRORED CABINETS OUT THERE, PLEASE COMMENT!
That's it for today's CHEAP TO CHIC!

Green bistro table and chairs outside AT's Hampstead Heath flat (above)
I mentioned AT in a previous post. Alyssa, one of my best friends from here in L.A., uprooted her life about two and half years ago and moved off to London. She now lives as an expat in London and is loving her charmed life there.
When AT first moved to London, she lived in the tony area of Notting Hill in a modernized apartment with a key to a communal garden. She and her dogs, Shadow and Maddy, loved the area...but AT wanted to give her canines more space.
Now AT lives in a ground floor apartment or "flat" as they say in London's Hampstead Heath area...she not only has a wonderful garden patio but also has an entire heath (I think this means park) for her dogs to enjoy.
Bowed french windows and doors lead into AT's ground floor London flat (above)
AT recently wrote me a note about a cost free makeover she recently did on her London flat. Here is AT's most recent design dispatch from London:
"hey [Coco] -
here are some more updated photos of my place ... the girl who lives above me is my oldest friend from junior high school, shannon ... as with everything in life, as she was moving here my upstairs neighbors (and also my landlord) were moving to the US and needed to rent their flat out ... timing was perfect and shannon moved in a few months ago ...
...her folks came to visit a few weeks ago... her mother, connie, has the best eye for design and came in and redid my entire flat - she basically just took what i had and rearranged everything - the place is 100% better - much warmer, more inviting ... i love it ... we call her connie the "sage" you can see why ... ill try to get you some photos of shannon's place ... - her place is great!
let me know if you need me to explain any of them ... can't wait to see you in august!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Living room features a under the window seating area with floral upholstered chaise lounge -great for reading or relaxing after a long day on the heath with pooches!
Living room features a traditional mantel and non-working fireplace with small step stool used for a bookshelf. Large oval mirror accents the mantle. (above)
In the dining room, a Saarinen like tulip table from Ikea is lit by a beautiful crystal chandelier. A decorative plate rests on top of the dining room mantel. (above)
A white chandelier hangs over the bedroom's sleeping area (above)
AT has made her bedroom the ultimate serene sleeping space...by making the color scheme all white.
When I asked AT about her bedroom and all of the chandeliers hanging from ceilings in every room of the flat...here is what she said:
"okay - so the chandeliers where up when i moved in - they are amazing but not expensive at all ... i even have them in the bathrooms ...the owners did an amazing job with them.
The bed linens i got a second hand shop! they were embroidered curtains and i just made it my comforter - it goes over my duvet - the sheets and pillow cases are just white ... love white linens!"
At the foot of the bed, Alyssa has a wonderful view of her private garden patio (above).
Wrought iron table and chairs are accented with floral pillows in AT's secret garden patio! (above)
Thank you little AT for sending these photos and for another design dispatch from London...can't wait to come visit later this summer!
Wisteria - Side Chair with Very Good Multiple Personalities - $899 - (with white linen slip cover add $$) (above)
Got this note to my blog's email address just the other day:
Can you find me some pieces on casters? --- sofas, chairs, chests --- I love movable pieces but they are hard to find.
I thought, "wow...a random reader is asking me for advice...I must hop to attention and immediately help one of my new readers out. If I can help this Desperate Decorator person, I can help the world!!!"
Not so fast...of course I was immediately humbled when I almost immediately realized that the email was from one of my best friends, Nicole...so much for helping the world and back to helping my family and friends with their design dilemmas.
Nicole is a mother of three who lives in New Jersey with her kids and husband. While her identity is known, the sentiment of the email is real. Nicole loves furniture on casters - furniture on wheels. Anything castered works for her - from coffee tables, sofas and chairs to chests of drawers. She likes the idea of being able to move and push large and small pieces of furniture around her rooms on small attached wheels called casters. This I guess gives her the decor and design flexibility she needs with a household full of kids.
Baker Furniture - Milling Road Regency Chair - $2324
Baker Furniture - Milling Road Regency Sofa - $3836
What I found is that most castered furniture comes in the form of upholstered sofas and chairs with very classic English styling. I like the Baker furniture version above because of the straight clean lines and the angled tapered legs.
William Sonoma Home has a more traditional version of armchair and sofa.
William Sonoma Home - Bedford Chair and Bedford Ottoman - $1725 and $725 in muslin (above)
William Sonoma Home - Bedford Sofa in muslin - $2900 - English arms with turned front feet on brass casters (above)
Found a few other non-traditional items with wheels on them...like this acrylic movable side table from CB2. It rolls on clear acrylic casters and can be wheeled around any modern living room.
Ikea also featured a castered bench with storage underneath - perhaps would work well pushed up against a wall in a small apartment.
CB2 - Peekabo Clear Table - $169 (above)
Ikea - Besta Bench with Casters - $99 (above)
Please send in any ideas you might have for my friend Nicole and her Desperate Decorator alter ego!

DESIGNER ROOM RECREATE: TURNING A ROOM INSIDE OUT - A LIVING SPACE THAT FEELS LIKE A BREATH OF FRESH AIR!
Photo: Eric Striffler, Design: Kimberly Hall (above)
White, orange, green, turquoise and the outdoors...here is an interior designer created indoor room with all the breeziness of the outdoors. This living space easily provides a transition to an outside yard with a bright blue pool.
Here's how to pull together a similar space in your own home.
Brocade Home - Tight tufted sectional loveseat - $1199 (white cotton twill upholstery w/ Scotch Guard finish) (above)
Elson & Company - Rex Ray Lucy -$60-85 per square foot for 60 knots per square inch (100% handmade pure Tibetan sheeps wool) (above)

William Sonoma Home - Lacquer Yellow-Tipped Tray - $145-$175

Wisteria - Garden Stool (pale green) - $129 (above)
William Sonoma Home - Decorative Porcelain Garden Seat (Dragon or white) - $250 (above)
Plantation - Barrel Garden Stool (Celadon) - $395 (above)
Some call them Chinese garden stools others call them "decorative" garden seats- the bottom line is that this summer these ceramic or porcelain decorative stools are all over. These stools can be used as outdoor furniture on a lawn, on a deck or on a paved patio. They come in a myriad of colors including white, pale green, blue, red and with painted designs. Because of all of the designs and colors available, they can be used to accent your outdoor space however you like.
Optional uses: I like the idea of bringing a few of these outdoor garden stools indoors to provide extra seating in a living room. Also can be used as a side table or end table. Finally another option is to use purely for decorative purposes inside the house or out in the garden.
Here's the CHEAP TO CHIC on garden stools (barrel shape):
Ballard Designs - Garden Seat (glazed white ceramic with pierced accents)- $119.95 (above)
Wisteria - Chinese Garden Stool (barrel shape ceramic in blue, white or green) - $129 (above)
Plantation - Barrel Garden Stool (Celadon) - $395 (above)
The ceramic may not be really comfortable to sit on for long stints...but certainly these stools provide a dry elevated place to take a rest during a garden stroll or during a socially strenuous garden party! :-)
CB2 - Morocco Rug - $299-499 (above)
Just yesterday, AM decided to test my design knowledge of her style - she showed me several rugs and I was to guess which one she bought. Out of about 15-20 rugs with different designs...I pondered for merely a few seconds before I picked the rug above from CB2 and I was right!
This rug is so AM. She loves accessories and furniture in her home to have an overall modern look but that has patterns and prints that hint of romance and classic.
CB2 calls this rug "Moorish modern". The black and white wool rug features a fanciful Moroccan pattern. Good for a bedroom, living room or even a baby room!
While this rug does feature a distinctive patterned...paired with the right simple monochromatic furniture (i.e. a upholstered celery colored sofa and chair...or a simple white sofa), it almost becomes a neutral. Almost.
This rug is imported hand tufted (CB2 says) 100% Bikaner wool (Bikaner is a town in western India btw). It comes in 5'x8' or 8'x10' sizes.

SEE THIS HOUSE: FROM LONDON - A DELIGHTFUL URBAN GARDEN STUDIO BRINGS THE OUTDOORS AND THE MODERN INSIDE!
The Graebert family's London pied-a-terre with a lovely garden view and a rambling vine mural on the wall(above)
So this is it...the final in a series of three "See This House" segments from Nicky Graebert of Hamburg, Germany. Nicky has been kind enough to share photos from his family's three homes - two in Hamburg and this studio loft apartment in London.
As with all of the other homes, this one room flat is interior designed by his mother. Nicky's mother is not a professional interior designer but she has a flare for decorating - giving each space she creates a distinct personality. We've now just learned that all of the colorful lighting in the Graebert's homes is courtesy of Nicky's dad- who has an engineering background and seems to enjoy designing interesting lighting schemes for all of the family's homes.
This cozy and lovely London studio off of Kings Road seems to be garden themed...with walls painted in a green textured sponged faux finish - walls which also feature a rambling vine wall mural. The garden theme is just the beginning of many great design surprises in this small flat.
Yet another unique and stunning decor statement from Nicky's mother and father - a modern high style flat where most anyone would love to spend time.
This one room flat has space for a living room seating area complete with sofa and chairs, bed (with shearling throw on it) and plenty of storage in the form of built-in cabinets and shelving. (above)
Nicky says his parents chose London after visiting him and his brother there while they were in school ("University"). Nicky's mom and dad enjoy the fact that there is so much to do in London.
Opposite the bedroom area of the flat is a large fireplace with a classic mantel and anchored by a large dark wood rectangular mirror. Mirrors it seems are used throughout the studio loft in order to make the room larger.
Nicky's dad designed the mood lighting surrounding the fireplace. (above) The yellow fireplace wall provides a bold contrast to the dusty green paint on all of the rest of the loft's walls.
Art also plays a key role in this flat. Nicky's mom has put several pictures in uniform picture frames above the bed area and has accented those walls with sparkling wall sconces. On the wall over the small dining space, the Graebert's have placed a large photo.
The flat also features a modern mirrored kitchen with all of the amenities!
Mirrored kitchen cabinets and a light feature above the sink that changes colors (above)
French doors lead to wonderful lush city garden in the middle of London complete with outdoor red bistro table and chairs. The garden is Nicky's favorite part of this studio. He says because this flat is right in the middle of the city, the garden provides such a nice place to relax and get away from the city "rush".
This London garden also boasts a green and yellow mosaic bench and a classic fountain.
Again, many thanks to Nicky Graebert and his family for sharing their homes with Cococozy...and for giving us a wonderful view of an international "See this house"!
