CHEAP TO CHIC: CRYSTAL CLEAR ON A POSH CONSOLE TABLE DESIGN!

A clear console table decorates the home of fashion designer Monique Lhuillier. Photo via inline link to PointClick Home

A crystal clear console table is perfect for any decor - there but not there in any room. Made of lucite, acrylic, plastic, or glass, these transparent tables can discreetly add mod style to a house. I love this photo above from an Elle Decor feature on fashion designer Monique Lhuillier's home. Set against a gray wall and with zebra print upholstered bench underneath, the console table holds decorative treasures and beautiful flowers.

Any style home could work a clear console table...behind a sofa, in a bedroom or in an entry hall...flexible and decor camouflage of sorts...that's why clear consoles are featured in today's CHEAP TO CHIC:

CB2 - Peekaboo Clear Console Table - $349 (Molded transparent acrylic. .7" thick. Plexi console table formed out of one piece of plastic) (above)

Crate & Barrel - Vista Console Table - $599 ("H" construction of ¾"-thick panels. Transparent acrylic) (above)

DESIGN ON SALE DAILY: UNCOVERING A PLUSH WINTER MUST HAVE THROW!

Grey faux fur throw from William Sonoma Home
William Sonoma Home - Faux Fur Throw - on sale $179.99; regular $495 (throw comes in gray or chocolate)(above)

Even though it has been a million degrees here in Los Angeles, I know winter will come (or at least some semblance thereof here in Southern California). At 64% off, thought this luxurious faux fur throw would be wonderful for cozying up to a warm hearth here in the land of sun and fun...imagine the incongruity of it all...the sun gleaming outside, 80 degree weather and a roaring fire inside, me and a warm faux fur throw...that's LaLa Land for you! It's cooling off here (I hope) and my friend NS says its cold in New Jersey...this fuzzy blanket is just the right answer!

THE BLACK & WHITE OF INSPIRED DESIGN!

Living room by Jeff Andrews Design with black and white checker board tile floor, white walls, grand black paned windows with chartreuse curtains and white slipcovered armchairs and sofa
Design: Jeff Andrews. Photo courtesy of Jeff Andrews Design.

Love these two rooms from a home in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles. Designer Jeff Andrews demonstrates that rooms with a simple two toned black and white theme can actually be full of color!

The Los Angeles based designer artfully decorated the living room (above) by making the biggest design statement on the floor... the bold black and white checker tiles (or flooring) set the stage for this dramatically elegant and clever room. White walls, grand windows trimmed in black, yellow curtains, white slipcovered armchairs and sofa, black and white framed art hanging and leaning on the walls, throw pillows that pick up the black and white theme, and a bird cage top off the rest of the design.

Kitchen by Jeff Andrews Design with white cabinets with black borders and trim, white drawers with black pulls and wood block countertops and floor
Design: Jeff Andrews. Photo courtesy of Jeff Andrews Design
In the kitchen, Jeff takes simple white cabinets to the next level by painting prominent black borders and trim around the doors - giving the whole room a retro 1950's vibe. Cabinet drawers are all also tied into the black and white color scheme...all dotted with black drawer pulls. Vintage looking appliances also get the black trim treatment. Wood block countertops and wood floors blend well with the overall theme. In this photo, we also get a glimpse of what is probably an original iron door or gate that leads into this stylish and well designed kitchen.

Thank you Jeff for letting me post these fab photos!

White bedroom with blue and green accents and a collage of framed pictures on a fireplace mantel
White bedroom with blue and green accents is made personal by a collection of framed pictures arranged around the mantel. (above)

Was browsing around Decorology blog yesterday when I happened on some awesome interior pictures by London based photographer James Merrell. Beautiful rooms with character and a sense that they are actually lived in and happily inhabited.

Immediately emailed James and asked if I could use a few of his amazing photographs. He said yes! Woohooo!

So here are six bedrooms photographed by James...all romantic, whimsical, cozy and full of character.

Bedroom with red walls, wrought iron scroll headboard and dark wood desk with matching chair
Red walls and a wrought iron scroll headboard make this romantic bedroom feel like a Mediterranean retreat.(above)

A neutral rug with lots of details...at 60% off, this rug's price has been laser cut to an appealing low. DESIGNER ROOM RECREATE: A STUDY IN CHOCOLATE - A DESIGNER HOME OFFICE GOES GRACEFULLY BROWN!

Love this home office designed by Los Angeles interior decorator Betsy Burnham of Burnham Design

For this Los Angeles home, Betsy designed the perfect blend of comfort, style and function. The dark brown walls make the space warm and inviting but serious enough to inspire productivity. The feminine accents throughout the room like the patterned drapes, the lighting in the form of a crystal chandelier and lovely table lamp, and the sumptuous upholstered pieces, all brilliantly soften and lighten the otherwise dark space

This office is wonderfully designed and conceived, hence it is the subject of today's Cococozy DESIGNER ROOM RECREATE!

SEE THIS HOUSE: BLOCKING OUT A MODERN, CHIC AND COLORFUL HOLLYWOOD HILLS HOME!

Bright modern living and dining room designed by Vanessa de Vargas with blue and green blocks of color on white walls

Love this ultra modern bright white, blue and green color blocked space. This Hollywood Hills home was designed by Vanessa de Vargas, Venice Beach, California interior designer, owner of Turquoise interior design. The use of bright blue and green blocks of color on white walls is an ingenious way of turning every day home furnishings and accessories into pieces of art. In this tres L.A. home, squares and rectangles of blue and green, are used to frame, accentuate, highlight and hide some of the home's more utilitarian pieces...giving function some very stylistic form.

Bright modern dining room designed by Vanessa de Vargas with blue and green blocks of color on white walls, sleek white dining room chairs and a frosted glass and metal dining table and buffet
A simple sleek white dining room with a frosted glass and metal dining table and a buffet made of the same materials gets a punch of color with blue and green blocks painted on the white walls. A blue rectangular block hides and highlights open shelves that hold a decorative array of alcohol for the home's bar, while a green rectangular block highlights a small sunburst wall decor mirror.

Two glowing silver and frosted glass table lamps flank the sides of the simple white stone mantel. A blue square block of color artfully frames a simple round decorative mirror to create a clever design element in the room.

Modern dining room designed by Vanessa de Vargas with white leather armchairs and sofa, frosted glass and brushed metal coffee table, French doors with a view of a lush patio and a green color block on one wall with a flat panel TV
Honey colored wood floors contrast against the simple white leather living room armchairs and sofa. A frosted glass and brushed metal coffee table is both functional and elegant. French doors bring the lush green plants from patio space inside the house...the verdent color from outside is mirrored inside with green throw pillows and a large green color block on the wall which is meant to highlight and camouflage the living room's flat panel television.

Frame wall decals and stickers in a stairwell designed by Vanessa de Vargas

An affordable wall design statement comes in the form of dozens of wall decals and stickers in this stairwell. This grouping of picture frame stickers from Ikea is used here to creatively line the walls of the home's curved staircase.

Designer Vanessa De Vargas beautifully managed to keep the space simple, clean and fresh but also full of colorful detail.

DESIGN ON SALE DAILY: A PENDANT WITH FRESHWATER APPEAL!

Woven wood pendant light from Design Within Reach
Design Within Reach (DWR) - Koura Pendant - on sale $987.50; regular $1975 (above) Photo by Coco of Cococozy.

At 50% off, the Koura Pendant is an absolute design steal. This large 39" high (over 3 feet high) basket-like wood pendant light is by naval architect and designer David Trubridge (2004) and it was inspired by the curled shape of a Maori freshwater crayfish (called koura). The Koura Pendant is made of Australian sustainable-plantation-grown hoop pine untreated plywood also echoes the lines and shapes of eel traps called hinaki; dual-core electrical flex PVC cord; white painted metal ceiling plate; and, stainless steel rivets. I took this photo at the DWR store on Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles...where the huge pendant hangs in the center of the showroom floor.

If I had a grand and modern space, I might buy one to use as a stunning showpiece chandelier. One more thing...as an FYI...it is recommended that you hang close to a wall or closer to the floor to take advantage of the interesting patterns the pendant makes when lit up.

TRES CHIC TRAYS!

Wood and mother of pearl R&Y Augousti tray

Close up of a wood and mother of pearl R&Y Augousti tray
Cococozy's wood and mother of pearl R&Y Augousti tray...given to me as a gift years ago. (above)

Was first introduced to R&Y Augousti by good friend RK about three years ago when she gave me the above tray as a gift.

I can't remember why RK got me a gift ...maybe a birthday, maybe the holidays, maybe a thank you of some sort. RK presented the gift to me one day over lunch (or was it dinner, or drinks...can't remember). All I remember thinking when being presented with the gift was "o000000h, lah dee dah, goody, yippeee, it comes from Barneys"...and then the surface conformist in me thought in simpleton flawed logic "so it must be good". Hmmmm....says a bit about me...right?

Anyhoooo....when I finally stopped my superficial materialistic appreciation of just the Barneys bag alone, I took the gift out of the bag. And there it was...a tray. Huh. A tray. Well. Huh. A tray. I nodded. "Interesting" I thought. "So nice of RK but what am I to do with this?" I immediately put the tray right back in the Barneys bag, admired the bag again and gave RK a big thanks and hug. "Now what else do I have to do today..."...and I went on my merry way.

About a day later, I was shuffling around my oh so tiny house when I realized that my Barneys gift was still in the bag. "I guess I should figure out what I am going to do with that tray thing" and my brow furrowed in a confused and puzzled way. I reached inside the coveted bag and pulled the tray out again. Suddenly (just note the rest is part truth and part drama) the lights in the room dimmed, the bag disappeared, a spotlight crashed on and my eyes focused on this really intricately beautiful tray. I was mesmerized. An epiphany. The tray was actually more beautiful than the place it had come from...could that be? In front of me was a lovely wood and mother pearl tray...it was elegant, fanciful and sophisticated all at the same time (much like the gift giver RK).

The tray now sits where it has for three years...prominently displayed in my bedroom on a dresser. Every time I look at this tray...I think of how nice and generous RK was for getting me this gift, how pretty and delightful the tray is, and wonder how many more of these trays I should buy.

Along the way, I did learn that the tray was by R&Y Augousti...and from then on I kept my eyes peeled for anything made by this Paris based company that makes furniture and decorative objects out of exotic materials.

R&Y Augousti glossy black shell tray with bronze handles in Persimmon
R&Y Augousti glossy black shell tray with bronze handles in Persimmon on Flores Street in Los Angeles - $215 (above)

Fast forward to a year or so after the receiving my tray gift and I walk into my friend Julie Schroeder's lovely store, Persimmon, only to find a wide array of gorgeous jewelry, small decorative pieces for the home which included some mesmerizing boxes and trays! Turns out Julie was carrying many stunning R&Y Augousti items in her store (and still is)....including an amazing selection of my coveted trays.

This is what Julie Schroeder, owner of Persimmon in Los Angeles had say about her love of things R&Y Augousti:

Cococozy: When was the first time you saw anything R&Y Augousti?
Julie, owner of Persimmon: First encountered the line during a trip to Paris before I opened the store. Came home with a fantastic orange snakeskin purse, which I still use.

Cococozy: Why do carry R&Y Augousti in your store?
Julie: I love the organic and unusual materials such as shagreen (which is used on practically every item from purses to furniture to trays), shell, parchment, palmwood, agates and metals. Each piece is handcrafted along with most of the other items in the store.

Cococozy: What is the R&Y Augousti item you covet most and why?
Julie: I am coveting anything Black Shell.

So ALL of that said...in my humble Cococozy opinion, the R&Y Augousti trays, whether in black shell, shagreen, mother of pearl or any other material can add great accents to any room - living room on an ottoman, dining room set on a side board or buffet, or in the bedroom or bathroom on a vanity. Here are a few more R&Y Augousti trays to consider...
