A silver toned stone and metal coffee table compliments a pale blue sofa and slipper chair in a very classic living room. Two white urn lamps sit atop dark mahogany side tables flanking the seating area. (above)
I am not a traditionalist or classicist when it comes to decor. For some reason though, this very traditional living room appeals to the more mature side in me (that side surfaces so very rarely). Tonight I am mature and I like this traditional room. So there!
What do you think?

I do not very often comment on posts, but with this living room you got my attention.......I hate it! It has the personality of a pancake. A lobby in a hotel would not even benifit from this. I usually like designs by Amanda Nisbet. I have a feeling I am looking at a very old image. The room is not alive. Just a plain Jane. Colors are drab. The art should have picked the room up....it looks like the wall paper continues on the canvas. It looks like a cheap showroom.
Sorry my first comment is a negative one and I know you like this image 'tonight'. But....I do like your blog, I do not miss any post.

I agree with Ron, this room is lifeless. It is almost a good idea. Pale blue, stone, classic lines...yes, I could see it, but the beige-y undertones look dated and the 'mud flaps' on the sofa and chair are yuck. I would send this room back to the drawing board.

I think what the appeal is... the soft colors are attractive. Other than that the sofa is a "fuddy duddy" shape and the side tables are a large contrast to the other colors... no matter how balanced the space is - it just looks odd.
Okay...I understand that many of you think the room is not noteworthy...
Some of the silhouettes are a bit too traditional for me today...but last night it did appeal to my "mature side"...I liked the color of the sofa, I really liked the coffee table. I also liked the white urn lamps.
...and today, some elements appeal to the other side of me (the immature side perhaps LOL!)...that side likes the same things coincidentally...the blues and the greys, the lamps and the coffee table!
So there...I am standing it by it...(for now)...LOL!
I do like/love the fact that this rather simple room has sparked so much conversation...keep it coming and thank you for the comments.
Honestly, I don't think this room is very traditional. Some of the furniture and accessories have hints at a traditional silhouette, but I think the colors and modified shapes make them more modern. The metal art piece behind the couch and hard edges of the metal table are also extremely modern. I think you could argue that this room is an extremely modern take on the traditional living room, but it is much too cold and clean to be truly traditional. Just my two cents! :)
I think that the room looks a bit unfinished, but sometimes we have to look beyond the actual pieces for the inspiration. i like the rug, love the lamps, and the palette itself is quite soothing - and i like the addition of the black side tables so it's not all too soft. i think the sofa looks COMFY! how rare in a designer room sometimes! just think of the possibilities this room holds instead of the negatives! A few new throw pillows, some colorful books/flowers on the coffee table, and plumping that chair up would do wonders. Switch out the artwork and voila! while i agree that many of amanda's rooms are a bit more creative than this... i bet it was also just what her client ordered!
How good it is to read I was not the only one who dared to speak out. Not realy the norm in blogosphere country !! But I could not help myself. I read some have already come up with solutions to update or spiff room up. Of course the room has potential....a lift is just what it needs. I am just hoping Amanda did not read all of this, as she one of my oversees clients!! I design lamps and sorry to say however pretty these lamps are not mine.

Ron! Thank you for starting the dialogue. I love the varying opinions. On another note, when I read you design lamps, I realize it is a very small world though. I have heard of you and your work! I love your lamps. My good friend Charlotte whose godmother and mom live in TX turned me onto your work. Charlotte says her godmother knows you well! I have been meaning to reach out to you for months! Would love to feature your work on COCOCOZY. I am going to email you!! Please continue to read/comment! Appreciate hearing from you.
