LIGHTING WEEK: AN AMAZING OPALINE CHANDELIER!

Brunelli Designs - Opaline Glass Chandelier - $2400 (1940's brass fixture with opaline glass stem and hand blown shades) (above)

Love this light blue opaline glass vintage chandelier. It is so AMAZING!!!

I am running out to a Halloween Party...yikes...the night has just begun and I already have stories!!!

Happy Halloween!

COLOR WATCH: HALLOWEEN INSPIRED HOME FURNISHINGS - O WHAT A SOFA & SOME OTHER ORANGE THINGS!

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams - Jackie Collection Sofa - $2620-3800 (Three-seat 90" sofa has tight back, welted into three sections with pillows. Small, low scooped roll arms. Tapered wood feet. Deep seat. Matching chair and ottoman. Jackie is available upholstered.)(above)

This post is a mish mosh...orange color theme in honor of Halloween (a holiday I do not like at all...seems so strange to me that adults all dress up and pretend to be in character for one night and it is difficult to have normal conversation with anyone at a party because they all are pretending to be ghoulish and I can't stand the running around the day before trying to pull together a costume that I wear for only one night and I hate the fact that I am never creative enough to pull together a clever costume so I've pulled together the same costume for the last 10 years ...and my discontent goes on and on and on...anyhoooo...back to furniture).

My favorite piece in this orange, pumpkin, persimmon themed post is the Jackie Collection Sofa above. So elegant...reminds me of Jackie O. Would love to throw this sofa into my home decor mix...somewhere...but where...hmmmm.....thinking...thinking harder???

Here are some other Halloween orange pieces of furniture...HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Niv Designs - Jacqui Coffee Table - $590 (Witty and colorful coffee table available in a variety of modern colors to suit every palate including orange, black, brown, yellow, red, spring green and white.)(above)

Pottery Barn - Olivia Sofette - $1,149.00 - $1,649.00 (Compact armless sofette or settee or loveseat is upholstered in a damask print orange and white fabric.)(above)

Plantation - Lion Garden Stool - $725 (This garden stool is both seating and table; Thick earthenware and very heavily glass glazed for depth of color. Features an intricate center cut-out pattern and side lion's face details. Persimmon orange)(above)

LIGHTING WEEK: A LOVELY LANTERN BRINGS MOROCCAN STYLE TO A LOS ANGELES MASTER BEDROOM!

All photos in this post by Coco of Cococozy

A large Moroccan style metal lantern casts a beautiful pattern on the ceiling of a bedroom in a beach home. (above)

Yoooohoooo...it's LIGHTING WEEK on COCOCOZY!

I'm just doing it. Instead of procrastinating...I'm starting this lighting themed week with little or no plan. Each day of this week, I will feature at least one post about lighting of some sort.

This first LIGHTING WEEK post comes from my "photo archives" (whatever that means...but sounds wonderfully official). This is a photo from the master bedroom at friend Juliana Jaoudi's house in Venice Beach, California. (I featured some of Julie's darling house earlier this year on this site.)

Decor is simple and clean - low modern upholstered bed, a great dark wood armoire for storage, beautiful french doors, neutral colors - but what completes the room and adds fabulous flair is this metal Moroccan lantern.

This very large metal pierced chandelier (lantern) makes a huge design statement in this room...the perfect lighting addition!

The lantern is perfectly positioned in the center of the room and over the foot of the bed. (above)

CHEAP TO CHIC: BAMBOO CHANDELIERS!

Pieces - Red Pagoda Chandelier - $1750 (Newly painted red-orange semi gloss. Custom made antiqued candle sleeves made from pipe. Pagoda design style.)(above)

Loving bamboo chandeliers...found one on eBay for a friend a few weeks back and she won it...she painted it white. In particular loving the Pagoda chinoiserie style of these faux bamboo hanging lights. Very 1050's, 1960's...glamorous Hollywood (Hollywood Regency) or Palm Beach chic.

They come in metal, painted metal (tole), wood, resin and many other faux bamboo forms and they come in a wide variety of colors!

Am more partial to these chandeliers, pendants, lanterns and lights in bright white...but maybe you could buy one of these and then paint it.

Here's today's mega COCOCOZY CHEAP TO CHIC:

Arcadia - World Imports Bijoux Transitional Chandelier - $340 (Black raindrop crystals glossy black finish)(above)

Mid Century Antiques - Green Faux Bamboo Chandelier - $950: Height: 20, Diameter: 22. (description)(above)

Pieces Inc. - Faux Bamboo Chandelier - $1100(Faux bamboo arms. Newly painted white semi gloss. Mini pineapple motif on bottom)(above)

Fantasy Lighting - Pagoda Lantern - $1170 (above)

Lewis Trimble - Brass Faux Bamboo Chinoiserie Chandelier - $1800: (Decorative faux bamboo chandelier made from solid brass most likely from the 1960s. The chandelier has been rewired and had new candle covers added.)(above)

What do you think?

P.S. This may be the beginning of LIGHTING WEEK on COCOCOZY. Am stressing the "may" here ... stay tuned and see...

BEFORE AND AFTER: A PIPING MAKEOVER TOTALLY TRANSFORMS MY LIVING ROOM ARMCHAIR!

All photos in this post by Coco of Cococozy

My newly slipcovered living room armchair in bright white denim with chocolate brown piping. (above)

So I had to get my furniture re-slipcovered last week (for reasons I shall not mention). As usual, decided not to take much of a risk with color...white...or fabric...100% cotton/denim. I did decide to be slightly daring though...daring in my world...by adding chocolate brown contrast piping. After my upholstery guy picked up the furniture, I managed to spend four days holding him up as I tried to decide what to do with the living room sofa, chair and ottoman. Finally, he tracked me down at my work while I was in a meeting and got me to commit. Did I ever mention that I have decision making issues? We'll get into that at a later date.

This past weekend, the furniture came back and I loved it. My upholstery guy said that he thought that I was "like a designer" and he was going to add contrast trim to his own couch at home. Little did he know that I was not "like a designer" at all...I just copied good friend CB, whose home is featured in a post here on COCOCOZY (just scroll down a few after this post and you will see it) and who has contrast piping on her living room sofa. That's the smart thing to do...when having decision making problems...just copy others. Yooohoooo....that's it.

I don't put too many pics of my house on COCOCOZY...but my sister, DS, who often does not pay attention to the emails I send her, left a voice mail saying "Hey...I saw that email with your furniture. [Eureka...she read it] Put it on your blog." That I think means she liked it? DS commands and my personal furniture makeover makes my own website. :-)

Close up of the chocolate brown contrast piping on my white denim sofa slipcover pillow. (above)

Before, my living room chair was covered in an off white cotton duck fabric...totally simple, no frills. Looks like a marshmallow. Maybe too boring? (above)

After, my living room chair gets some definition and a bit of style (I think) with the brown contrast piping and a custom lumbar pillow in Windsor Smith's Pelagos fabric. (above)

Friend, BN (a guy) says that my living room looks way too cluttered in the after photos. I responded that when you live in the smallest house in the United States just adding a pillow or two can make it look more cluttered...then I told him to focus on the piping. Hmmmmmm.....

ENTERTAINING IN STYLE IN A TURQUOISE AND YELLOW DINING ROOM!

A mid century modern inspired Platner metal and glass dining table is the centerpiece of this designer dining room...that also features bright accents in turquoise and yellow! (above)

Love this dining room for some reason. Maybe it is because I am totally into turquoise lately. While there is far more color and texture than I normally do, this space still has great appeal (it's the design work of my fave...Jonathan Adler). The turquoise curtains and vase, and the bright yellow Chippendale chairs make the space. Oh, did I mention the cool black and white zigzag rug?! P.S. Notice the black front door to the home in the background. I like that too.

DESIGN ON SALE DAILY: A MULTIFACETED PENDANT LIGHT!

West Elm - Faceted Glass Pendant Lamp - on sale $89.99; regular $129 ( Modern geometry in clear glass and pewter brass. Hardwired. 60W bulb (not included). 14"diam x 12"h) (above)

Perfect little pendant light...use three of them over a kitchen center island, or one in a small vestibule, could be cute in a tiny bathroom or powder room too. The geometric angles are interesting and modern but there is also something very timeless about this very cheap piece!

HIGH CEILINGS AND A GREAT ROOM IN A MAGNIFICENT CAPE COD STYLE HOME!

Photos courtesy of Meridith Baer Associates

The exterior of the ultimate modern modern barn house with white trim, taupe painted siding and a shiny black front door...oozing classic charm in Sherman Oaks, California. (above)

This 3000 square foot architectural Cape Cod and barn style home is newly-remodeled and was staged to sell by premier interior designer Meridith Baer. Far from Cape Cod and not at all in the country side, this home is actually in the "valley" here in Los Angeles!

What stands out most to me in this home are the 25 foot truss-beamed ceilings and the grand great room that combines the living room, dining room, kitchen and family room in one! The gourmet kitchen is pretty awesome too...with an 8-ft island with white marble counters, subway tile backsplash and stainless steel appliances!

Love the dark stained wood floors, the timeless furniture (in particular the caned sofa and armchairs) and the simple, elegant and modern design.

Would happily live in this so called "barn"...

THE BEST LAID PLANS - A GORGEOUS PAINTED TILE KITCHEN FLOOR!

A New York city home features an eat-in kitchen with bright white cabinetry and what appears to be a gorgeous Mexican ceramic tile floor. (above)

Love this kitchen floor! Looks like some form of painted Mexican tile (perhaps the red clay classic Talavera tile or some porcelain version) or an Italian painted tile. Love the white background and the colorful design. How many times did I say the word "love"

SHOP WATCH: WHY I DANCED MY WAY THROUGH JONATHAN ADLER - THE MOST CHEERFUL FURNITURE STORE IN L.A.!

All photos in this post by Coco of Cococozy

Inside the Jonathan Adler furniture store on 3rd St. in Los Angeles. (above)

The minute I stepped into the door of the Jonathan Adler store the other day, I started dancing.

I stopped into this colorfully chic furniture shop here in L.A. on Sunday with friend RK, who was visiting from out of town.

Don't know if it was the bright colors, or the fanciful furnishings, or the new Grace Jones track playing on the sound system (yes, Grace Jones), or the warm greeting I received at the door from the two salespeople on duty, Tony and Theresa...but the minute I walked into Jonathan Adler this last Sunday, I started dancing.

It was about 5:45pm yesterday. The weekend was wrapping up. Since the day was almost over, RK and I were the last of the Sunday shoppers to hit the store it seemed. There may have been one person there when we arrived, but he left.

There is absolutely no accounting for what came over me. Nothing specific. Just an overall mood. There was just something going on in that shop that afternoon that made me want to dance.

I started with the good old shuffle and shoulder shrug and then by the time I rounded the bend over to the bedroom side of the store, my arms were swinging in the air and I was adding in an occasional twirl here and there...I was in full on dancing mode. I didn't care. I was just dancing.

The cool thing was that Tony, the aforementioned salesperson, was dancing right along with me! In between beats, I would ooooh at a piece of furniture and Tony would respond with a dance move of his own and then then tell me a bit about the piece. Then I would do another shuffle step-step and shoulder shrug-shrug over to the next item and start ahhhhing all over again....Tony kept up and, in fact, out-danced me a few times all along the way.

During my personal dance-a-thon, I did take a moment to look over at the normally reserved RK, who was purposefully keeping a safe distance from me, trying to maintain some bit of decorum I think...but even she couldn't help herself, I noticed her head bouncing to the beat of the music and I may have even seen her instinctively do a shoulder shrug of her own.

It was a surprise bit of fun on a Sunday afternoon. (Oh did I mention cute Sonny the Maltese (he's Theresa's dog. I had a picture of him but it was way too blurry)...Sonny's motto is "Size ain't nothing but a number"...love a small store dog with a big motto!)

Anyhooo....here are some cute pieces that I danced into while there...

Jonathan Adler - Addison Chair - $1650 as shown (Extra wide upholstered chair with tufted seat, curved T-back and oak stained legs. Also comes with walnut or lacquer finished legs) (above and below)

Love the lines of this striking accent chair. Something reminds me of the whole mid-century modern lines of the 1950's...a glammed up version of a chair from that era!

Nailhead trim detail on the Addison chair. (above)

Jonathan Adler - Acapulco Collage Pillow - $125 (Orange and white embroidered pillow. Modern take on Mexican tapestries. Comes in yellow and natural too)(above)

Jonathan Adler - Shelter Island Chair - $495 (Modern woven white rattan chair on white metal frame with orange seat cushions) (above)

Jonathan Adler - Pop Menagerie Bird Box - $68 (Glossy white porcelain box in the shape of a bird. Features blue and green painted abstract feather detail)(above)

Now it is Monday...and I must admit the cheery mood of the store is a distant memory at this point (a day later)...maybe I'll have to visit again next weekend...yes...maybe I will!

A CHARMING NYC FURNITURE BOUTIQUE!

All photos in this post by Coco of Cococozy

A cute burlap upholstered loveseat ($2800)inside the Michele Varian store on Crosby Street in New York.

Way back in August...was in NYC and happened upon Michele Varian, an adorable home furniture boutique in Soho. Very cute and eclectic mix of pieces in this wonderful little shop. In addition to interesting furnishings, there was an array of fantastic glass and mercury glass pendant lights, paper products, enamel dishware and lots and lots of pillows (shop person told us that the silk, velvet and linen pillows were all made at the store's NYC studio).

Anyhoooo...like everything else in my life at this point...I am about two months behind ...and now just putting up this post...but here it is...better late than never...!

Outside the Michele Varian flagship store in New York's Soho area. (above and below)

One of a kind recycled bud glass vases. Green, $250. Brown, $400. (above and below)

Lighting is one of the first things you see when you walk into the store. An lovely display of brass, nickel, glass, mercuray glass and vintage looking pendants all create an alluring light scape. (above and below)

Blue, grey and white enamel and metal plate. (above)

Dishware includes and enticing selection of hot pink and white enamel/metal cups and plates (above)

The pillow is made of silk and features a bright pink ultrasuede bird right in the center ($244). (above)
