DESIGN ON SALE DAILY: COLORFUL BISTRO CHAIRS!

The Conran Shop - Bistro Metal Folding Chair - regular $89; on sale $71.20 (Colors clockwise starting bottom left: turquoise blue, apple green, lemon yellow and white. Powder coated lacquered steel folding chair. Galvanized slats.)(above)

The perfect delicate little metal chair. For indoors or out. Reminiscent of the bistro chairs from 19th century Paris. The Conran Shop suggests putting these cute chairs on a small balcony or terrace...I would even suggest many of these (two of each color) surrounding a large outdoor table or indoor farmhouse style table. They are sleek, dainty and cheery. Would love to have a sit and enjoy a morning cup of tea while looking at a garden view.

Hope you have a happy Friday and a great Memorial Day weekend.

OCEANFRONT OUTDOOR LIVING AT ITS BEST!

Love this Moorish looking outdoor space. The ceramic tiled pool and fountain, the white washed perimeter walls, the detailed iron work gates, the red Saltillo tiled patio floor and the amazing outdoor fireplace...oh did I mention the white sand beach and the ocean right beyond. Feels like Spain, Morocco and the best of California all rolled into one. Sigh. Sigh again. Sigh. I would like to be there.

What is your ideal outdoor space and/or what do you think of this one?

BEFORE & AFTER: A POSITIVELY PERFECT POWDER ROOM MAKEOVER!

Photos courtesy of Niche Interiors

BEFORE: the powder was dull and lifeless with a drab tile floor and a greyish taupe wall color.(above)

These powder room makeover photos came to me from Jennifer Jones of San Francisco based Niche Interiors.

I think this small bathroom makeover is positively perfect.

The room is transformed by adding a bold graphic wallpaper in black and white, dark hardwood floors, and a simple Queen Anne shaped all glass mirror. The edits are so simple here yet they make a complex design statement!

Love this BEFORE & AFTER. What do you think?

Photo: Jennifer Hale Photography
AFTER: WOW! The graphic wall paper makes this space a show stopper. (above)

Please click on comments link below and weigh in!

For those of you who wondered, the wall paper is called DuBarry from Osborne & Little's Pompadour collection.

Thank you Jennifer from Niche Interiors for these fun bathroom before and after photos!

WEEKEND PHOTO: TULIPS!

Photos by Coco of Cococozy

Orange tulips and wild grass at my house. (above)

Sorry I haven't posted in days. Had a rough week and wasn't feeling well. Am back and better now.

I made this flower arrangement yesterday and thought you might enjoy - even if it is just for laughs!

Is this "arrangement" ugly or pretty? You tell me. I am leaning towards pretty in an ugly sort of way. :-)

All I did was take long wild grass and wrapped it around the inside of a glass urn, then plopped in 20 orange tulips in various phase of bloom, and then threw in the rest of the grass. A disorganized modern classic floral arrangement mishmosh I think. Arrangement is a big word for these flowers as I did no arranging at all. I just put them in the urn and you can tell!

Here's the only thing I will say...no matter how little you do with tulips or flowers they still brighten up a space and make me smile. So regardless if it is objectively ugly or pretty...these flowers hit the right emotional chord for me after a really rough and tumble week...

Still, I am interested to hear your amusing comments on these flowers though...need more laughs!

Hope you have a great weekend!

BLOCKS OF BLUE!

I love the color blue. I also love seeing solid blocks of uninterrupted blue in home decor. Here are some fab photos of blocks of blue used to decorate. It works in bedrooms, living rooms, on walls, on furniture like chairs and even on stairs. No need for busy prints or patterns when it comes to blue. Just a solid punch of it here or there or all over works!

Any shade blue is good too...turquoise, dark blue, royal blue, aqua, cobalt blue, teal, baby blue, navy blue, powder blue and of course Tiffany Blue...they all can make a room complete.

Try a bold block of solid blue in your house, home, apartment, country cottage or city loft...and send me a picture...would love to see how it looks!

My favorite of these blue photos is the staircase in aqua blue (or is that turquoise...never know the difference). There is something so beachy rustic chic about these worn stairs and the color. I love the idea of using blue on the floor!

Which is your favorite?

GREEN AND YELLOW HUES BRIGHTEN UP THE DAY!

I like this modern living room decor. The green and yellow hues, the geometric lines, the white sofa with green trim and the cool modern chrome and glass donut-like coffee table.

It is gloomy and rainy here in Los Angeles again today. This room brightens things up a bit.

Running off to work!

Have a good one.

WEEKEND PHOTO: BEVERLY HILLS HOTEL BLISS!

Photos in this post by Coco of Cococozy

Looking up at the white market umbrellas on the patio at the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel. (above)

A few weekends back I was at the Polo Lounge enjoying a lovely late afternoon lunch with my mother, aunts, cousin and sister. It was a gorgeous Southern California day and the outdoor courtyard at the Polo Lounge was buzzing. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and this was one of those days where I thought there could be no better place to live than here.

Before everyone arrived (they were all late of course), I had some time to people watch and soak in the sun. I leaned back in my chair, looked up and I saw this scene of blue skies, palm trees and a canopy of white market umbrellas. The ultimate alfresco dining I thought!

I am aware that there are two photos here and the title of this weekly post is WEEKEND PHOTO signifying there will only be one photo. Oh well, I couldn't decide which I liked best so this weekend you get two photos.

Hope you are having a nice weekend! See you next week (tomorrow)...uh oh...have no idea what I'll blog about next week...I'll think about it tomorrow

Please send me your photos of a fabulously beautiful outdoor living scene. I would love to see and maybe even post here or on Facebook!

COLOR WATCH: PLAYING WITH PINK IN A NEW YORK FAMILY LOFT!

Photos courtesy of Ghislaine Vinas Interior Design

A hot pink sofa and hot pink bar stools make a bright and bold statement in a modern New York loft! (above)

I'm not a big pink person. Unlike some of my dearest friends who love pink and have pink touches all over their homes and even wear pink from time to time...I'm a bit afraid of pink in home decor (and in fashion). Don't know why...maybe it is because pink reminds me of 8 year old girls and princess dresses? Don't know. Maybe because whenever I've tried to incorporate pink into my wardrobe, I accidentally pair it with black and then feel like that Good & Plenty candy. I admit...I have had a case of pink-a-phobia over the years. I don't own anything pink, I don't have anything pink in my house and if I see pink, I sometimes cringe.

After seeing this New York City loft from interior designer Ghislaine Vinas, I may have conquered my fear of pink. I really like this space that is filled with pops of pink.

This is a cool modern city apartment where the pink touches add cheerful accents of color. Cheerful pink highlights that work for me (a self admitted pink-a-phobic). Just the right amount of pink!

Thank you Ghislaine for curing my aversion to pink. Who knows, I might have to actually add a little pink into my home, wardrobe...into my life! Wish me luck!

Open kitchen's backsplash is painted hot pink too...a perfect match for the counter stools.(above)

The grey concrete kitchen island counter perfectly balances and blends with the pink accents in the home. (above)

Love the pink closet door and built in shelving. Great idea for adding color to wall space without painting the whole room. (above)

How do you feel about pink?

Hope you have a great Friday and that thinking pink is working for you!

I would love to have something like the Simple Spring planted container delivered to my on a biweekly basis. I would love to win the lamp and side table."
Congratulations Cassie! Please email me at cococozy@gmail.com by next week with your address and your selection of one of the items.

SEE THIS HOUSE: SANDRA BULLOCK'S NEW ORLEANS HOME - WHY IT WAS ONCE MY DREAM!

All photos in this post by Coco of Cococozy

An ornate Victorian home in the Garden District of New Orleans known as the Koch-Mays House, The Swiss Chalet House or Freret's Folley. (above)

This is the house that I coveted and took photos of back in 2008 when I was in New Orleans for my annual December trip to visit best of friend FF and her family for their spectacular holiday festivities. These are the photos. It was for sale back in 2008 and I even made the person I was with call the realtor to find out more about it including the price. I saw it first before it was made internationally famous by a Hollywood star.

It was one of only one or two (or three) houses I took pictures of in the Garden District that gorgeous December day in 2008. I wanted it. I adored it. I admired it. I felt like a pauper as I stood there peering through the fence, snapping photos and dreaming of what I might do with this house. I desperately needed the house at the time I thought. I even told best of friend FF who lives in a gorgeous grand home on St. Charles Avenue that I had found the house I wanted. So back in 2008, while in New Orleans, I decided this was absolutely the home I had to have. When I returned to Los Angeles, I did a post on this so called Swiss Chalet House (here is my December 2008 post and proof that I saw it first ... seem petty?...don't answer).

I knew one day I would own it. I was zeroed in on my dream home in New Orleans. You know...my laser focus kicked in.

It seems that my laser focus kicked in so much, it had me focusing on a million and half other things besides my so called New Orleans "dream home" right after getting back from New Orleans in December '08 (is that called A.D.D.?). Which meant right after typing out my original Cococozy post on this house, I pretty much forgot about it...the house, the whole dream forgotten. Yup...forgot about it. (That's the way I roll...)

Well last night, I happen to be on the interweb (Yahoo in particular) and I see a story about Sandra Bullock's New Orleans home - the home she has moved into with her new adopted son Louis. When I click on the picture I come to find out that Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock stole the show by purchasing my New Orleans dream house last summer. AAAAAAHHHHHHHGGGGGHHHHHHHHH. Sandra Bullock has swooped in and purchased my home right from underneath me. Well not quite. I did have almost 14 fortnights to consider before she bought it in the summer of 2009 (I love using the word fortnight...I could have just said almost 7 months...but had to figure out a way incorporate this erudite sounding measure of time into one of my posts...could be considered annoying and pretentious word usage by some...but those "some" would not appreciate my lock jaw cheeky humor anyway...am I beginning to sound British...wait this is a story about the South and New Orleans...I need a southern accent and need to stop yappin' about fortnights and the like y'all).

Did I mention...there were also just a few obstacles that stood in my home purchasing way...that kept me from swooping in and buying this home before Sandra Bullock became the lucky owner: 1. The price...$2.25 million was/is/will be a little steep for me; 2. I live in Los Angeles and I work in Los Angeles and I would need to work in order to continue to live. Just some minor obstacles.

Considering all that she's been through as of late, I am happy that at least it is this seemingly down-to-earth actress who swooped in and bought my house before me. I have always liked Sandra Bullock's personal style, her public demeanor and now her taste in New Orleans homes!

I also realize, I am doing this story much later than most other blogs, newspapers, websites, t.v. shows and any other form of in-the-know resources...many of which were right on the latest celebrity and real estate news when they published their stories way back in August of last year.
I found out about this breaking news last night...so it breaking news at least to me if no one else.

This house is on Coliseum in the New Orleans Garden District. It was built back in 1876 by architect William Freret. Reports have it at over 6,600 square feet with 5 bedrooms. The ornate ironwork, the exquisite carved eaves and the wonderful roofline with its three steeples...looks like something out of a storybook. When this was my dream, I imagined all of the wonderful things that could be done with this house.

Dream is over for me but glad this house dream is a reality for Sandra Bullock and her new baby!

The historic home now owned by Sandra Bullock is on a corner lot and stands three stories high. (above)

Notice the "For Sale" sign on the iron gate...further proof that I saw it and coveted it while it was still on the market back in 2008! (above)

The view of street and neighborhood outside of Sandra Bullock's New Orleans home.(above)

Well c'est la vie for me and good for Sandra!!

What do you think of this New Orleans home?

SHOP WATCH: JAYSON HOME AND GARDEN!

Photos courtesy of Jayson Home & Garden

So this is Jayson Home & Garden - the posh home furnishing and garden store in Chicago's Lincoln Park.

Been loving what Jayson Home & Garden has to offer for the past few years and have often featured the store's goods on Cococozy. The store, owned by Jay Goltz, first opened its doors back in 1997 and has about 20,000 square feet of phenomenal furniture, accessories, lighting, flea market and garden finds.

Caroline Scheeler, VP Creative Director of Jayson Home & Garden was kind enough to answer questions about this wonderful store for today's SHOP WATCH:

COCO: What do you hope people will feel when they walk into the store?
CAROLINE SCHEELER, VP CREATIVE DIRECTOR, JAYSON HOME & GARDEN: Happy. Special. Cool. Like they have just discovered something ....hidden....even if it's their 900th trip to the store and it's in the middle of the city of Chicago! Something new, old, inspiring, curious....every shopping trip. A place that they want to tell their friends about and bring them to. A sense of warmth....both from the merchandise mix and from our sales staff. Lots of customers think of our sales people as friends! I hope that our customer's think that they can count on us to constantly evolve our look and yet remain true to our brand.....and I think that really is what keeps us different.

COCO: Is there a particular "Jayson Home & Garden style"?
CAROLINE: I think there is definitely an element of drama in what we do. Staying fresh every season....buying products that are perhaps just a bit ahead of the curve. The mix....traditional, fashion-forward, textural, layered, modern, classic, ethnic, vintage, antique .... Collecting and decorating happily and successfully has so much to do with context. I think that our customers are a savvy lot and understand that.

COCO: Tell me a bit about the vintage/antique home furnishings...what is the design goal in selecting these?
CAROLINE: To set us apart..... and to have really, really special things for our customers. You only buy a sofa or a dining table every 7-10 years.....but collecting, decorating, adorning your home is an ongoing passion. Our Flea Market events are becoming legendary. We have so much fun with them and it is really a special event....with people waiting in line at dawn....for the warm croissants...and first peek at the finds. It's like a European Flea Market...without the jet lag or the fleas!

COCO: I understand you have a Spring collection for the store...tell me a bit about this...how did this come about and what theme was in mind when developing the line?
CAROLINE: Unlike most home furnishings retailers...because of our size....we can change our product mix much more frequently. We can respond to trends and whims in decorating and fashion.....react to what our customers are buying or not buying . This spring we really tried, in our buying, to be price sensitive while keeping true to our brand. Our "look" changes every season. Spring offers a time to be perhaps a bit more fresh and clean and autumn and winter are a welcome time for nesting , reflecting and gathering. We don't want our customers to have brand whiplash ....so our "looks" sort of evolve into each other. Again, what does set us apart is that we buy and merchandise the store on a "fashion world" time line .....changing with the seasons....always an eye on the horizon.

COCO: Tell me why "garden" is also incorporated into the store's title and the merchandise.
CAROLINE: Our gardening season in Chicago is so painfully short. But we are passionate gardeners....so our season starts fast and reluctantly crawls into autumn. We saw a void in the market in Chicago ....there were really only a couple of urban garden stores back in 1996. And we were really starting to see an evolution in nesting....and decorating that extended beyond the interior. Today the evolution continues with more educated gardeners. We, and our customers, consider the outdoor spaces around our homes to be extensions of the home so we try to find unique items for the garden as well be they plants, vintage pieces or garden ornaments.

COCO: What can shoppers look forward to if they visit the store in person or conversely online?
CAROLINE: You simply cannot replicate the sensory feast of our bricks and mortar store. When you are physically in the store ....you have the light quality, the burning candles, the people, the music, the colors and textures and flowers and buzzing vibe that is ever changing. The website is an edited and very shoppable version of the store. It really has such a different feel. There is definitely cohesion with the landing pages on the site but we also keep the site very simple and easy to use. You will never have things flashing at you on our site... The store versus the site is also a great example of context. The online products....cut out on white...are very easy to shop..... yet aren't really in any kind of context other than that of the virtual store. So....you can, perhaps, better imagine a chrome yellow, velvet antique sofa in your super modern high rise flat more easily than you could if you were in our store with the dark walls and antiques setting the stage.

Thank you Caroline and Abbe for all of the photos and fantastic information.

Also THANK YOU so much for partnering on COCOCOZY GIVEAWAY #4 (readers see next post).

WEEKEND PHOTO: THE UNCLUTTERED CLOSET!

Sleek modern dressing room with glossy grey custom cabinets! Fab closet design!(above)

I believe this closet is the size of my house. Hmmm....

I like this dressing area. The grey flat front closet doors and drawers are simple perfection. No disorder in this space...closet organizers and closet systems all hidden...the ultimate clutter control. Love the big white pouf in the middle of the space too...perfect for sitting back and thinking about all of the lovely and stylish possibilities that might come out of this space. The hot pink dress is quite cute too!

Hope you have a fabulous weekend and a great Mother's Day (my sister and I are taking our mom to the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel to celebrate...will be a fab mother/daughter day)!!

TWO WHITE KITCHENS IN NEW YORK CITY!

Photos courtesy of Peter Pennoyer Architects

White eat-in kitchen in a french modern townhouse. (above)

Haven't had a Peter Pennoyer fix in ages it seems. Peter Pennoyer is a fantastic New York architect whose work I absolutely adore. It has become my inadvertent tradition to feature some of his work each month...every time I find something he has done...I love it. I wish I had a gagillion dollars and a beautiful New York City brownstone and Peter Pennoyer and his firm were my architects...dreaming...I can just imagine what my gorgeous place would look like!

All that dreaming being said and aside, down to reality...here are two kitchens, in two New York City homes, of two people/families that do have gagillions of dollars and actually have had Peter Pennoyer design their homes. Can't tell if I am happy for them or jealous!!! Hee hee...

Bright kitchen with a wonderful white stone and tan grout floor in an eastside duplex. (above)

What is your home dream...and what do you think of these kitchens?

Hope you have a great Thursday!

DESIGN IDEA: WHITE WALLS, BLUE FLOOR - LIVING ROOM COLOR!

Photo: Scott Frances

I was going to save this photo for the weekend but I get impatient with images I really like! Not to mention, I have no resolve these days. I say I'm going to deprive myself of something or not do something and within minutes I'm doing exactly what I said I wouldn't do....help?

Okay...I think this is a great design idea for those of us who have a fear to adding bold color to walls...leave the walls white and add color to the floor!

I think this is a polished concrete floor in blue (although it could be a tile of some sort too) in this fab living room. Love this look. Crisp clean white walls and a captivating pop of color on the floor. The same effect could be achieved with a large rug. I like the fact that the floor is pretty much monochromatic...with just a bit of shading here and there.

This space feels fresh and open and reminds me of being at the beach or out sailing. Summer....

Love this look.

What do you think?

FIVE DARING DINING ROOMS!

Photo: Douglas Friedman
At least 12 Nelson bubble suspension lights in different shapes and sizes make a daring statement as they hang over a modern dining room table with white Saarinen arm chairs and side chairs. (above)

Daring to be different, these five rooms do dinner in a unique way. All push design to the limit to create highly styled spaces that are full of whimsy and visual interest. Would love to attend a dinner party in any of these spaces! Good food, good company and daring decor could make for a rather exciting gathering...don't you think?

Take a look at these five daring dining rooms!!

Blue room with lots of other colors too! Aqua blue walls, a fanciful white and red glass chandelier, green curtains, purple rug and multicolored dining chairs upholstered in a Missoni like fabric proudly blend together in a bold and stylish modern dining room.(above)

Do any of these dining rooms work for you? If so, which one? (I, of course, love the white one with all of the Nelson lamps...I just bought a bunch of lanterns for my patio this weekend and this reminds me of something you might see outdoors.)

Happy Tuesday!
