TONE & TEXTURE: AN ASHLEE RAUBAUCH PHOTO JOURNAL OF DESIGNER CAITLIN WILSON'S WORK!

Got an email yesterday from fab photographer Ashlee Raubauch. Ashlee wrote to let me know that she had just published some beautiful photos on her blog and said that I was welcome to use them. The history here is that I've been wanting to feature Ashlee's work for some time and we have written back and forth for a bit...so it was a great and wonderful surprise to receive an email from her offering up a tremendous collection of photos.

Anyhoooo...here are Ashlee's photos of the work of a very creative designer named Caitlin Wilson. To make a short story even more complicated....I had pegged Caitlin's work as very interesting after seeing on another blog a few months ago! Small world. Caitlin it seems travels the world with her husband and baby and I think lives in Dubai...but can't tell...and she and Ashlee I guess did this photo shoot in Utah? Anyhoooooo (again) the details don't really matter...what matters is these fabulous interiors.

The tone is just perfect in these photos...color is used impeccably. It is there but not overwhelming. Love the pops of orange and turquoise featured in these spaces.

There are a million photos to see but I targeted these of the kitchens Caitlin designed. They are the perfect blend of modern and traditional. Timeless yet very contemporary.

Oh and I also threw in a few photos showing the wonderful use of patterns, textures and tones in Caitlin's upholstery selection and combinations! Fantastic.

Hope you enjoy too!

Ashlee, thank you for writing me and sharing your photos. Caitlin...nice to meet you and your work!

Anything appeal to you dear readers? What do you think? Let me know.

Happy Thursday and happy last day of September! Must run as usual and wrestle my closet to find something interesting to wear to work (I don't know why I take so much time to get dressed up for work...some days I wear sparkles, other days I wear cocktail dresses...and in the end I guess...with sparkles aside...what I wear doesn't really matter because it would be mostly about the work I do while at work...it is called "work" after all...it is not called "dress up"...okay...tata)!

ARCHITECT-TOUR: A SMALL MODERN VACATION HOME BUILT ON SOME VERY BIG IDEAS!

A small modern architectural weekend home in Noyack, New York features black siding and four high white framed windows on the front exterior. (above)

Such a cool small box shaped modern house. Only about 1300 square feet but built on big ideas. Designed by the architecture firm Bates Masi Architects, this house was commissioned by an actor who needed a weekend get away outside of New York.

I am intrigued by all of the interesting architectural choices made in this vacation home. Most intriguing is the black Skatelite siding on the exterior. Skatelite is a material used in skateboard parks...a material used to cover ground surfaces that helps skaters go faster on their boards! In the last photo...you can see a detail shot of this siding.

Also love the deck boards used as hardwood flooring. I like the fact that the floors have been laid in an interesting shape to create a path of sorts through the house.

Lastly, I think all of the knotty wood wall and ceiling paneling looks fantastic. The lines of the boards and the knots in the wood all work well together to give this home a sense of modern sleekness combined with country warmth.

Deck boards are used as wood flooring in an open multifunctional space that features living room, dining room and open kitchen all in one.(above)

A bridge on the second level overlooks the common spaces below and links the master bedroom with the upstairs bath (above)

An interior barn door is used for the upstairs bathroom...a great space saving use of a sliding door in a smaller space. (above)

Laser cut Skatelite, the skateboard park ground cover, is used as the home's functional and decorative siding. (above)

Hope you enjoyed this little modern house as much as I did. What do you think?

Happy Wednesday!

COLOR WATCH: STYLING WITH GREY ALL THE WAY!

Photo: Jennifer Helgerson

Still loving grey. It has become a staple neutral in home decor and always a go to in fashion and on the runway - on walls or cabinets, upholstery and fabric, in the bedroom, kitchen, living room, dining room or den, for jackets, skirts, pants, tops and dresses...grey goes all the way in making a room or a look feel elegant and modern at the same time.

In honor of fall and the winter months to come, styling with grey today...in home and in fashion!

I like grey.

Love the Cynthia Steffe jumpers and the casual tweed urban chic of the Rag & Bone collection. Style at its best.

As far as rooms go...I like the dark charcoal grey room with the purple sofas...moody, modern and chic!

Which is your favorite?

Happy Tuesday to you. I have a busy day ahead!

P.S. I think I'm getting a cold. Not feeling well. Yikes. All of this hot Southern California weather mixed with freezing air conditioned temperatures in doors. Oh no...

LONDON LOFTY!

Keeping it simple is the decor theme in this London loft apartment. All white pretty much with touches of color here and there...letting the architecture do the talking...high ceilings, elevated windows, a glass second story loft wall and even a spiral staircase.

No frills but it works. A lofty idea...keeping things simple. Hmmmm...

My favorite picture is the small home office made from glass open shelving and a clear Philippe Starck chair...almost invisible. Good idea.

Happy happy Monday! Remember...keep things simple!

WEEKEND PHOTO!

Great hall...great curved doorway...great white stairs with black runner...great log ceiling...great white washed walls! Maybe this is some place in Morocco? I can only imagine what the rest of the space must look like...probably fresh, serene, rich in textures but uncluttered in silhouettes...I can only imagine!

Wonderful stairs = endless possibilities.

Went to Soho House here in L.A. last night with JD. Hadn't been to the Los Angeles version yet. Have spent lots of time at the New York Soho House and been to the London one once ... but this was my first time at L.A. (or should I say West Hollywood). Was toying with applying to be a member but then dug my heels in and thought not. Well my mind might have been changed last night. The decor by Waldo Fernandez is just amazing. The panoramic city views are stunning. Check out my twitter to see the photo of the view from the roof at night. Oh yes, the quinoa salad is DELICIOUS and the photo booth is fun too (I pretty much made us do a photo shoot until we got the right shot to put on the wall). All that said...rethinking and may have to join after all! Thanks to JD for the fun eve!

Anyhooo....already have taken the dog on a walk this morning through the hills and now I'm off...into 105 degree weather (wish me luck)!

Happy happy Sunday!

UGLY OR PRETTY? A CAPIZ SHELL CHANDELIER!

Photo: Coco of Cococozy
A floral capiz shell drum chandelier. (above)

I think this chandelier is pretty. Best of friend AM thinks this is ugly.

A capiz shell drum-shaped floral chandelier! Love it! LOVE IT!

When in NY a bit ago, shopping with friend AM...I saw this beauty. AM was off looking at some tables or something and I literally yelled, "AM come over here. AM! Come here! AM come see this GORGEOUS light fixture...it is SOOOOOO pretty." AM walked over, glanced up and said "I hate it...it's ugly." and then she walked off. Hmmmmm....

AM has fabulous taste in decor...so I only feel validated if she likes everything that I like...this time that was not the case.

What do you think dear readers? This is the question I ask you in today's UGLY OR PRETTY?...what do you think? (I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I want the popular vote in this case!). Is this chandelier ugly or pretty? You decide.

If you hate it, please say it...I can take the truth. I can take the truth. I can take the truth. I really can take the truth. I can. (I am repeating that statement so that it becomes true...).

Hope you have a great Saturday!

SEE THIS HOUSE: A $15 MILLION CENTRAL PARK PENTHOUSE WITH THE PERFECT PARK VIEW!

Where should I start? How about with the with the million dollar views of Central Park?

Another real estate listing...another multimillion dollar home for sale...this time a New York City apartment...a duplex in the sky to be exact!

Located on Central Park South...this two story penthouse boasts an 850 square foot patio with spectacular views of what is arguably the world's most famous park! Clearly it is about the views and the balcony here...the apartment itself is 2,800 square feet, 2 bedrooms, 3 baths...so not huge by any means...but definitely nicely done with wood floors, built-ins, fireplaces, a sleek modern gourmet kitchen, a library, nicely appointed baths and more. It is the views of the park though that eclipse all of the indoor views and amenities...oh I would love that view of the park!

Oh did I forget to mention the price tag on this one...$14.95 million to be exact...nearly $15 million!

Okay...note to self: need a pied-a-terre in the city...need a place in the city now. This one would do. Just need $14 million and some change and then I'm done. Anyone??? Anyone havean extra $14 million they can spare?

Hope you enjoy this one and have a great Friday!

A COZY ITALIAN VILLA ON A HILLSIDE!

I never got a proper vacation this summer so I am dying to get away. Any place sounds good. Anywhere. That's probably why this Italian villa in the Liguria region looked so appealing to me. It is not for rent but I imagine myself spending a relaxing week in nice little historic home like this! The eclectic design is full of character...quite comfy...and definitely cozy. And the views...oh the views...

I'm loving the exterior color of this house...yellow with black shutters and white trim. Wonderful!

Where would you take a fall vacation if you could?

Going to a party at Brooks Brothers in Beverly Hills this evening...friend Social Primer invited a bunch of us to the launch of that new book True Prep (by the same lady who wrote the Preppy Handbook). Need to figure out what I will wear. Hmmmm....need something that I can wear to work today but then looks cute in the evening...arghhhhhh...there I go...I'm stressing myself out...need to go get ready for work! Yikes. Oh boy.

Anyhooo...hope you have a fab Thursday!
