SOCIALLY CORRECT - FAMILY FRIENDLY KITCHEN WITH STYLE!

Kitchen with grey cabinets, marble counter tops, casement windows, stained oak table dining room table surrounded by matching chairs and a chandelier

Nice kitchen...right?

This Chevy Chase, Maryland kitchen belongs to a former White House social secretary, Amy Zantzinger, and her family. She wanted to create a good looking space that was also extremely functional.

The centerpiece - is a counter height dark stained oak table for the family to eat meals around and for her kids to do home work.

Loving the serene grey cabinets, the concealed appliances, the cabinet pocket doors, the marble countertops and yes the wrap around french paned windows! Nice.

Classic but not old and fuddy duddy...fresh and inviting. That's the perfect recipe for a kitchen in my view.

What do you think of this eat-in kitchen? Too traditional? Just right? What elements might you incorporate into your dream kitchen?

Happy Monday!

  1. I love this kitchen for its practicality, as well as it's clean lines. I do think that oriental runners along with roman shades on the windows would complete the room.

  4. Gorgeous! I love the windows. I agree with Interiorspace that it just needs some pattern and/or splashes of color going on to make it perfect. I'd also like to see more industrial chairs to counter the very traditional everything else.

  6. LOVE this kitchen.....and I'm crazy about marble countertops..... I understand they stain very easily, however, and that's holding me back.

  9. Lovely, light and lots of countertops. Looks like it fits in nicely with the traditional look of the home. Of course the appliances are to die for! When can I move in?

  11. I do think it looks good and the windows are fantastic.
I just don't think it would function that well to have the table in chairs right in the middle as you are trying to prepare a meal. The distance from the fridge to the sink looks a little strung out also.

I still favor a seating area near the kitchen or an island with seating on one side to keep people out of the working area of a kitchen.

  13. wow! those windows!! i love the idea of not having top cabinets but normally, i realize it's not the best use of space. *not in this place!!* it looks like she has storage galore. covet the kitchen...and covet the job, too!

  14. Beautiful, especially the windows! Not a fan of the table, would prefer an island in wood! I like things to stay put and not feel I would run into a stray chair.

  16. Kitchen envy!! I love the idea of having the table in the middle of the kitchen. I can picture decorating cookies with the family and morning breakfast. The kitchen is where the heart is.

  19. I love the color of the cabinets. Very pretty alternative to just plain white. Have to agree that if there was some pattern it would really feel lively. Maybe on the windows? But then it would block that beautiful open feeling. Really pretty, though. Wish the floors were a tad bit darker.

  20. I love the built-in fridge and the cabinet pocket doors. I would love to open up doors to a little nook for my coffee maker and coffee mugs..so perfect!

  21. I love this kitchen too. Really inspires me. The windows would make long cooking projects a joy. I just wonder what kind of modular refrigeration system that is. I'd love to know!

  22. This kind of classic, American kitchen never seems to date. Even in a very modern interior, I always think there's something slightly suspicious about a very trendy kitchen...

  23. I would love to replace all of my top cabinets with windows.....but since I can't do that (as most of us cannot), I'm considering replacing all of the doors with glass doors. I think it will really open the look up like in this fabulous kitchen. Thanks for this great post!
