VIVID - DESIGNING A MERRY RED HOLIDAY SEASON!

Bright red kitchen cabinets! (above)
Awhile back I posed the pressing question...red v. orange in home decor?  I know...other pressing questions really do exist...but at that as my mind wandered...as it does so often, I thought, "I must wonder out loud...which color is better red or orange?  I must ponder this...".  Bizarre I know...but I did manage to spend a bit of time thinking about that question.  I know I could have been doing some real good in the world in even the ten minutes I spent way back when I first asked this question...but instead I was probably sitting in my velour Juicy Couture sweat pants thinking "Huh, I wonder what I like better, huh, hmmm, huh...red or orange?  Hmmm..."  Well, the bad news was, I didn't have a definitive answer back then...but now I do!  Hoorah...we can all breath a sigh of relief.  The answer is here. (P.S. do not laugh at me regarding the Juicy sweat pants I wear as my around-the-house garb...I really find them so comfortable...so comfy that sometimes I even sleep in them...is that bad???).

Anyhooo....the answer...yes the answer...

Red. Red. Red is my answer.  I like red.  The trends say like orange I'm sure...I don't care...I love a wonderful vibrant red in all aspects of design including fashion.

Wouldn't I just love to wear this amazing gown to a holiday party this next month?  I'd show up in this gown even if they said it was a hay ride and plaid flannel shirts were the recommended attire.

In decor, there is nothing like a bright red door to cheerfully welcome visitors inside.  I even like these red cabinets...the rest of the kitchen has wood grain cabinets but then the stove area pops with this vibrant red.

What do you think of this bright red?  To bright for you or is a touch here and there just right?  Do tell?  Do!

Happy Monday!

WEEKEND PHOTO!

Perfect little cozy living room.  Clean-line modern furniture and accessories in grey and white with a bit of Missoni like zig zag thrown into the mix.  Quite charming and easy to understand from a decorating perspective!  No design bells and whistles...but it totally works. Cohesive, inviting and comfy.  Lesson: keeping things simple in design can be just as effective as doing it up.

I might increase the scale of the painting/art hanging over the sofa...it feels a little small to me.  Other than that...this is a nice little space!
What do you think...too simple or just right?  What might you add or change out?

Happy Saturday!

TILE FILE: BYE BYE RUGS, HELLO MOSAICS!

A Barcelona home with a restored mosaic tile floor! Just lovely in my view. The classic mosaic designs mean there is no need for anything extra on these floors in this Spanish home...no rugs, carpets or anything else. The decor and furnishings in these rooms has to stay simple because of the detailed tiled floor. This works for me...a bit of pattern and then the rest kept uber simple. Yes!

This TILE FILE idea would require one thing for me...heated floors!

What do you think of these mosaic floors in this home in Spain? Love or don't love?  Want to hear whether this works for you!

Happy day after Thanksgiving by the way...or as we say here in the U.S., Happy Black Friday (called Black Friday because on this day after Thanksgiving the hope is there is enough pre-Christmas shopping going on that it puts retailers "in the black" with profits being recorded instead of lossess...who knew...I didn't...I had to look this up...)!

Happy Friday!

THANKSGIVING INSPIRATION: THINGS I AM MOST THANKFUL FOR!

All photos in this post by Coco of COCOCOZY

I like Thanksgiving.  Love the idea of taking a moment to reflect on things to be thankful for.

Here are just a few of the many things I am most thankful for in my life:

Family - I have the best family ever.  I am so thankful for their love and support.  Thank goodness for their high values and strong character...they guide me, keep me in check and are just nice to be around!  xo

Friends -I am thankful I have such wonderful friends.  They are smart, nice people who make me laugh.

So I think what I am saying is that I am most thankful for the people in my life including the wonderful readers and friends I have made through COCOCOZY.  I appreciate you.  I am thankful for you.

Hope you have a wonderful rest of the day...and a great Thanksgiving tomorrow!

P.S. I took the first photo on Mulholland Drive one afternoon this fall.  There was something so pretty about the wild grass, the light breeze and the gorgeous sunset.  Am also thankful for moments like that!

SEE THIS HOUSE: BARN RAISING STYLE!

Okay...is it weird that I love a great repurposed barn?  I just do.  I've been featuring a lot of transformed barns lately for no apparent reason except that I'm totally drawn to them.  Hmmmm...

Anyhoooo...love this Canadian barn that was moved Connecticut and then remodeled into a fantastic living space.  An imported barn where modern meets rustic and does so beautifully.  I think I love the high ceilings in most of these barns...or maybe it is just the rough hewn touches that I find so appealing.  Take a look!

A hide rug and sleek club chairs make for a perfect sitting area in front of the main living room's fireplace with its steel mantel and flagstone chimney. (above)

Wide plank wood floors and exposed beam ceilings nicely contrast with the modern zinc counter tops and the marble mosaic backsplash in the home's stylish Shaker style kitchen. (above)

The woven rocking chairs and the canopy bed all hint to a simple Shaker style that is seen throughout the home. Love the open shelving with baskets too. (above)

The guest house is bright, light and airy! (above)
So the question is...would you take this barn house or leave it?  I would take take take!

Happy Monday!

FABULOUS FALL!

All photos in this post by Coco of COCOCOZY

It is raining here this morning in Los Angeles. Reminds me of Seattle last weekend. It was rainy and cold there but oh so pretty. I took a few photos of the fall leaves there.

I've decided...I think...fall is my favorite season...rain or shine...I love the fall. Love the afternoon light in autumn...adore the fall colors (yes even here in L.A. we have some trees that change colors and lose their leaves)...

We are well into fall now...and I am happy!

How are you spending this autumn Sunday?  I'm working a bit and then just enjoying the day!

Happy Sunday!

SHOP WATCH: CASUALLY CHIC AT POM POM INTERIORS BEVERLY HILLS!

All photos in this post by Coco of COCOCOZY

So today I bring you a SHOP WATCH on a darling Beverly Hills home furnishings and linens store owned by Hilde Leiaghat.  Hilde's Pom Pom Interiors stores in Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Hollywood are well known throughout Los Angeles as the mecca for all things beautiful and romantic in home decor.  Hilde owns Pom Pom with her husband Reza and son Sam and they've grown the business from retail stores to a thriving home linens business that includes exquisite linen bedding, table top linens and more.

I love Pom Pom's table linens and bedding.  I was thrilled when Hilde also decided to carry my own COCOCOZY textiles in the Beverly Hills stores!

I also think Hilde is a superb business woman so I wanted to feature her and her Pom Pom Interiors Beverly Hills store into today's SHOP WATCH.  So here goes!

COCO: How long has Pom Pom been in business?
HILDE LEIAGHAT, Owner Pom Pom (HL): Pom Pom has been in business for over 20 years now!

COCO: When did the Beverly Hills store open and why do you like this space?
HL: The Beverly Hills location opened exactly one year ago. We loved the space because of its high ceilings (so it could showcase our chandeliers well). Canon is not necessary a shopping street but we liked it because of the many restaurants and beauty salons surrounding the store.

COCO: What do you hope customers will feel when they enter any of your Pom Pom stores?
HL: I want people to feel "at home" when they walk in, forget their everyday problems and just be surrounded by luxury! It's all about being comfortable and happy.

COCO:  Describe your style?
HL: European elegance with a romantic flare. Just casual chic not shabby!

COCO: What is the most exciting part of owning these gorgeous stores?
HL:  Being able to make peoples surroundings beautiful and inviting so they enjoy living!
I can shop all the time, travel the world and not have to feel guilty about it! That's the best part!!!

COCO: You have a huge linens collection in Pom Pom at Home...tell me about some of the items you manufacture and sell at the Beverly Hills store?
HL: I started my linen line, Pom Pom at Home, three years ago. Being a native of Belgium, I always had a passion for linen because that's what I grew up with. We manufacture 100% organic Belgian linen bedding and table top. It ranges from very simple sheets and duvets to elaborate embroidered collections with lace border and velvet trims. The line is designed to mix and match. That's how we display it in our stores.

COCO: What do you think is a design/decor essential for any home?
HL: The most important essential in design to me is to have good quality and neutral basics, whether it is furniture or linens!! Once you have that you can build on with color and different inexpensive accessories. That way you can change your decor frequently.

COCO: What is the best part of working with your family?
HL: Knowing that you always can count on them. You have to be able to take their criticism because you know they will tell you the truth! Good or bad! I love to be able to travel with them.

COCO: What are you most proud of as it relates to the PomPom brand?
HL: We often hear of customers telling us they love to visit Pom Pom because it make them feel good. This is the biggest compliment I can get.

COCO: Words of advice for anyone who is thinking of starting any kind of venture of their own?
HL:  Do It!!! And always go with your gut feeling!!! Whatever it is in life, do it the best you can and enjoy it! Remember always "you learn from your mistakes" so be prepared to make them.

The Leiaghat family - Reza, Sam and Hilde own and run Pom Pom Interiors and Pom Pom at Home. (above)

Thank you Hilde for answering all of my questions AND for being so helpful with advice!

If you are in Los Angeles...you should definitely swing by the Beverly Hills store!

P.S. Feel inspired by Hilde and her business acumen!  Up early this morning. Finalizing COCOCOZY textiles collection for 2012. Err...finalizing would be a great word if I was even close to finishing this project...so maybe I'll say "working on the COCOCOZY textiles collection" instead. Also, will be adding some new goodies to the COCOCOZY Shop next week...just in time for a little holiday online shopping.

NEW STORE OPENING: 7 THINGS I'M LOVING FROM WEST ELM LOS ANGELES!

All photos in this post by Coco of COCOCOZY
1. Colored Glass Tea Light Holders - $10 (above)
West Elm Los Angeles opens today!  I got a semi-private tour of the new West Elm store earlier this week BEFORE the store's opening.  The modern furniture and accessories retailer is now in the middle of Los Angeles right on Beverly Boulevard.

Nice Kendall Coleman a West Elm publicist invited me (and a few others) to come meet West Elm's venerable Creative Director Vanessa Holden and then tour the store.

The tour was so much fun!  So cool being in a store before it opens.  There was an employee meeting and all of the new sales staff was cheering...there were stylists and photographers buzzing around making everything look perfect and making sure to document it all.  The space is gorgeous.  Kind of a warehouse feel with lots of skylights and industrial touches.  Love it.

I felt like a bit of a cliche...kid in a candy store...getting to see a store like this on the eve of its opening.

First and foremost...as far as cool modern home furnishings...it is clear the people at West Elm know what they are doing...so many great home accessories and so much furniture to see...all well edited though and perfectly designed.  Love!

The new West Elm store in Los Angeles the day before opening day! (above)

2. Kitchen Accessories (above and below)

3. Mercury Owls - $14-$19 (50% of retail price goes to charity!)(above)

4. Alphabet Mugs - on sale $4 (above and below)

5. Modernist Mugs - on sale $6

6. Bath Accessories! (above and below)

Love these Hammam ceramic soap dishes with the graphic patterns! (above)

7. Metal Parsons Desk - $499 (above)

My faves are the metal Parsons desk, the Mercury Owls (cute table or shelf decor), the bath accessories and the Modernist Mugs.  So basically everything!

If you are in Los Angeles today...you should go check out this new West Elm.  It opens today!  Good affordable options for holiday shopping!

Happy Thursday!

P.S.  Great dinner last night with best of guy friend BN and newer friend SCS who is a stylish, clever and nice Hollywood exec who runs a cable network.  We went to Madeo and practically closed down the restaurant.  Madeo is this Hollywood insiders haven...with fabulous Italian fare and a cozy environment.  At the end of the night we got to talking politics - lighthearted politics I might add.  Me and best of guy friend BN are always arguing politics so now we just talk about fluffy stuff so we don't fight.  It was nice though to have someone on my side of the argument.  SCS was so hilarious as she quizzed BN on his views and he tried to quiz back (unsuccessfully).  Very hilarious and fun dinner.  Can't wait to do it again.

FASHION FORWARD: TAILORED LIVING!

I like a room that is sharp and precise...I also love clothing that is neat, well edited...tailored.  Clean lines, not too many frills, neutral tones...works in the home and in fashion it seems!

Calvin Klein Fall Ready to Wear 2011 (above and below)

What do you think about these tailored looks?  Work for you or do you need a little more color and pomp added in?

Happy Wednesday!

P.S.  Had a fun dinner at Cecconi's last night with interior designer Emily Ruddo from Armonia Decors and her friend furniture designer Darren Ransdell.  We had all met up at a store party at Roche Bobois (which for some reason seemed like the furniture store was transformed into a night club...with loud music and lots of people wearing tight dresses and sparkles...furniture store disco party of sorts...LOL!) and then had a late bite to eat.  The halibut tartar at Cecconi's is to die for...Emily recommended it...went so well with a chilly glass of champagne and some good conversation. What a lovely evening!

P.P.S.  Busy day today...again...off and running!
