SLAB IT UP - KITCHEN MARBLE!

kitchen with marble slab backsplash, black dark quartz counter tops, caesarstone wood floors and a small island

Curious to know what you think of this look?  Marble slabs used instead of tiles as a kitchen backsplash.

Most would say tile a backsplash...but what about this...marble from countertop to ceiling...a slab of marble?

Here are some examples of this look at work.  Kind of cool the way the veins in the marble create interesting uninterrupted patterns. Acts as a nice back drop behind a stove and hood or above the kitchen sink.

What do you think?

Large veins in the marble slab over the sink and cooktop in this modern kitchen almost look like contemporary art! (above)

Silver kitchen - grey cabinets, Carara marble countertops and the marble slab backsplash make for a kitchen that shimmers. (above)

Which of these marble backsplashes do you like best?  Do you like this look?  Or would you stick to a traditional tile backsplash for your space.

I'm kind of liking...would use in my third home...if I had a third home. :-)

Happy Monday!

  2. I'm actually needing to redo my backsplash. I have cashmere white granite tops and just got finished painting cabinets white and walls robins egg blue (actually Halcyon Green to be exact!). So the white marble slabs has been in my thoughts.... you confirmed it!

  4. Love it!! Just remodeled my kitchen and opted to use this treatment. I am one of those persons that has never been a fan of grout. Prior, I had metal tile that was butted, loved that too, but wanted a change. Friends in design business wanted me to reuse the tile, they loved it. But, time to let it to go.....and glad I did.

  5. I think it is beautiful! This is what I did for my personal kitchen backsplash. I love when it can extend to the ceiling as it creates drama and draws the eye up. I have upper cabinets above mine however, but I still love it.

  6. I am in the middle/end of a kitchen reno. My countertops are calacatta oro and my backsplash, including behind the stove and under the hood, will be the sam marble. The benefit, in addition to no grout lines, is the veins can be book matched so they look like a seamless continuation of the ones on the countertop. I love these all, but my favorite is the third from the top. By the way, that is calacatta oro (Calcutta Gold) like mine not carrara marble.
    A beautiful post.

  12. Calacatta Oro is my favorite and if my clients are OK with using marble in the kitchen, I think it's beautiful - epecially in slabs! They need to try out a sample peice to be sure they understand the properties of marble vs. granite and if it is honed they will probably be more comfortable with it since it etches. Many think that sealing will solve that problem but it's not true.

  17. The marble backsplash and sink are great. If you are working with a small kitchen, I bet a design like this would help make it feel bigger.

  19. I love this black kitchen - what a show-stopper. I would love to know the manufacturer of the hood in the white kitchen. I looks to have tone on tone stainless - very pretty. Thank you! Happy New Year!!
