TREND ALERT: DODECAHEDRON!

bathroom with stand alone tub, a large window with floor length curtains, tile floor and a dodecahedron light

Dodecahedron. Hmmmm. For some reason this multifaceted shape seems to be popping up everywhere in design. You might ask...what is a dodecahedron? I asked that myself a few months ago when the word came up during a conversation. (Don't ask how it came up in a conversation but it did...and it has been coming up almost every day for the last 2 months...I know...strange)

Here's the definition from Wikipedia:
In geometry, a dodecahedron is any polyhedron with twelve flat faces...It is composed of 12 regular pentagonal faces, with three meeting at each vertex, and is represented by the Schläfli symbol {5,3}. It has 20 vertices and 30 edges.

Uh, what? Translation? I think simply put, a dodecahedron means a 12 sided figure.

Seems the design world is fascinated by this multifaceted shape. I like it too! After I first heard the word, then saw the shape, I kept seeing it everywhere I turned in design...take a look!

Happy Monday!

  1. I love it! The many faces of design...especially when the geometry transcends the 2d look to create 3d effects...here's where color is key! Love that bathroom shot...pinning!

  4. I hated geometry in high school (yes, I can remember back that far) but I could love a dodecahedron, if only because it is fun to say.

  5. LOL, totally agree. They are everywhere. I got so wrapped up in it, I bought a RL polyhedron pendant at Home Goods for super cheap and there's nowhere to put it in my house… NO WHERE. Darn!

Did a post on it a while back, too! Great minds...
