TREND ALERT: GO BIG OR GO HOME - HUGE DINING ROOM PENDANT LIGHTS!

I took the photo above years ago on a house tour in Hancock Park here in Los Angeles. I was overwhelmed by the size of the pendant light that hung above the dining room table. A gigantic white shade looming over a round table. I had never seen anything like this before.

Suddenly, this year I have been coming across photos of GIANT pendant lights acting as chandeliers in dining rooms. The point I am sure is to make a very big decorating statement.  The scale of these immense lights is purposefully sized to dwarf the table and chairs below.  These super big pendants are round, dome or conical.  They are metal, capiz shell, paper, plastic and even fabric. Trying to figure out whether these super sized lights are a trend or if they are simply catching my eye....hmmmm....I wonder...

What do you think of these super sized dining room pendant lights? Like or dislike?  I think I like the last photo the best...the white dining room with the large Ikea PS Maskros pendant lamp.  Do you like any of these?  Is this a trend you might follow?  Do comment below.  I want to hear what you think!

Happy Monday!

  1. I've never seen anything like it!! Wow. I think if the ceilings are high enough that it doesn't overwhelm the space, it can definitely make a statement. I love the dining space picture third from the bottom. Rustic yet cozy.

  2. I love it and have the large Moooi one above my table, another great way to draw attention is to group several in different sizes or if you have a rectangular table to hang more the one down the center of it!

  4. LOVING how bold these lamps are! My dining room lamp is small, probably because I'm not so confident about it. Now I'm inspired! It's always the details of what we put in our spaces that matter, from the wall art to the lighting. Beautiful!

  6. I love them as long as the room has the airiness to handle them. Otherwise I think they make a space feel small.
