CHEAP TO CHIC: HOW METAL CAN WORK BEAUTIFULLY INSIDE THE HOME!

Thibaut - Earth Vine Wallpaper (Metallic on Grey vine leaf pattern comes from Thibaut's Natural Resources Collection)(above)

Totally into shiny metallics this season. Maybe it is the holidays...maybe it is the time of year...but I like the idea of some cool metal shine inside the home.

Especially love this chic wallpaper from Thibaut pictured above - the perfect blend of a metal with a sophisticated pattern equals a wallcovering that is both classic and modern.

So with metal on my mind...here is a collection of metallics in today's CHEAP TO CHIC:

Kenneth Wingard - Steel Bamboo - $74-90 (Decorative faux bamboo shoots crafted from real steel. Oxidizes with age. Comes in large and small)(above)

SOME RANDOM THINGS I AM THANKFUL FOR ON THANKSGIVING MORNING!

All photos in this post by Coco of Cococozy

1. My new apple peeler corer slicer from William Sonoma - cut down on apple prep time for apple pie making by a million times. Love it!

Besides being truly thankful for my amazing family and great friends, here are 5 very random things I am thankful for on Thanksgiving morning 2009. Photos all taken during my baking marathon today.

2. Apple pie is done!

3. My new mixer by Cuisinart also from William Sonoma - Before I bought this mixer yesterday, I was mixing everything by hand; I would spend hours stirring and mixing and mashing things as if I was cooking in the 19th century. This made Thanksgiving pie prep so much easier!

4. Sweet potato pie is done - Thanks Auntie J. for filling me in on some baking tips this morning over the phone!

5. How clueless my dog is at times - makes me laugh. I saw this going on outside my kitchen window this morning. Notice the neighbor's cat right above him - he certainly didn't!

Now am off to my sister's house for a lovely Thanksgiving filled with family and cheer. Hope you are having a great day!

A SOFT COLOR PALETTE MAKES A PICTURE PERFECT LIVING ROOM!

Photo courtesy of William Hefner Architecture

A Los Angeles, CA home's traditional living room features high ceilings, paneled walls, a stone fireplace mantel, gorgeous tall windows and a soothing color palette of creams, greys and light blues. (above)

Happy Thanksgiving?

Was trying to find a photo of a great dining room or table setting I liked in honor of the holiday...but this lovely living room stopped me in my tracks. So instead of a seeing a fabulous tablescape on Thanksgiving...you get this from me. Maybe it is a sign for me...cut back on food on Thanksgiving Day and enjoy the company of others in the communal living spaces...? Well I will most likely still eat AND definitely commune with family!

Love this room by fab L.A. architect William Hefner! So this is my way of saying Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you for reading. Thank you for your comments. Thank you for spending time with me this year and hopefully next! Hope you have a fantastic day!

Happy Thanksgiving!

P.S. Must wake up early and make a few pies! Wish me luck!

MODERN LONDON LIVING SPACES!

Photos courtesy of/copyright by Fisher Hart Architectural & Interiors Photography

A black fireplace mantel makes a statement in a modern London living room. The space also features two facing dark blue sofas, wide plank wood floors and intricately carved crown moldings. Classic architecture + stylish modern furniture = perfect. (above)

These gorgeous living space photos come directly from the portfolio of Susan Fisher Plotner and Cecilia Hart Wilden of London based architectural and interiors photography firm, Fisher Hart.

Modern decor...all clean and simple...but with incredible levels of detail in the architecture and the accents...very posh, very chic, brilliant!

High ceilings are the focus of this room. A flat in the Hampstead area of London features a living room (or sitting room as they say across the pond) with a stunning round modern ceiling medallion surrounded by raised square ceiling panels. Cream walls, sofa and furnishings get a dose of color with spots of bright orange and red throughout the room. (above)

A bold graphic black and white rug from Knots Rug, Ltd adds visual interest to a very bright white sitting room! (above)

COCOCOZY FIND: A FAB VINTAGE SHELF IN THE FORM OF A FLOWER!

Objects in the Loft - Fabulous Shelving Unit/Room Divider - $7500 (Style of Milo Baughman this chrome, brass and glass unit can be placed against a wall or in the center of a room. Circa 1960-1970)(above)

In the style of famed 20th century furniture designer Milo Ray Baughman, this vintage display shelf piece is stunning.

Grrrrrrr....leaves me only wishing I had a huge house to decorate. Maybe I'll just buy it and stick it in the center of my tiny living room, of my even tinier house in the Hollywood Hills (now I know it seems impossible for a home's living room to be smaller than the home itself...but as my walls close in on me day be day, I'm starting to believe I'm living in an alternate reality and that anything could happen).

I think this piece could go well with any style of decor...from ultra contemporary, to mid-century modern, to Hollywood Regency, to a more classic European traditional decor style.

It is light and airy but makes a bold design statement. Love this!

SHOP WATCH: AT HOME AT COLCHA IN VENICE BEACH!

All photos in this post by Coco of Cococozy

Exterior view of Colcha in Venice Beach, California (above)

So as of late, every time I am in Venice I find myself wandering into this wonderful home furnishing store...Colcha.

Right in the heart of all things cool in Venice on Abbot Kinney, Colcha is an amazingly well edited home furnishings and accessories shop with an array of original and stylish finds for the home. Wonderful pillows, unique furniture and an array of chic accessories, makes this store a playground of sorts filled with delights for anyone who is interested decor.

Three things about Colcha:
1. Do not take a guy to Colcha - Men don't understand what happens to women when they encounter a shop filled with beautiful decor delights. Two different times, I have taken men (one guy I liked and one who is a friend) to Colcha. Each time, I have literally left these poor fellows standing dumbfounded in the middle of the store by themselves, as I dashed about touching, caressing, examining, admiring, and commenting on everything in the store. Twice now, I have been tapped on the shoulder by a guy who said "I am leaving" and twice, I've looked at these guys and said "Okay"...completely content to be left in Colcha zigging and zagging about the store. Sorry guys!
2. They know how to flatter at Colcha/good place for an ego boost - On my first visit to Colcha, Lauren who works there found out that I had a blog from my friend CB. Lauren proceeded to call over the owner of Colcha, Sue Cowie, and say "Oh my gosh, Sue this is Coco. She has that great blog Cococozy. The one I was showing you today. Your blog is beautiful". Last time I was in Colcha, Sue herself said, "I was just on your blog this morning." Love Sue and Lauren! :-)
3. They have a cool collection of John Robshaw bedding at Colcha (see below) - Love John Robshaw (ikats, block prints fashioned on prints from around the world)...love the selection of bedding at Colcha.

Casamidy Opera Side Chair - $975 (From Casamidy's Varenne line. White leather and white metal frame) (above)

Archival Decor Pillows - $245 for 24x24 (Pillows are constructed of hemp on the front panel, cotton velvet on the back panel. Filling is a down and feather blend. Images are screen printed on the front panel with a very dark sepia brown, water based ink.) (above and below)

Rope Table Lamp - $395 (above/below)

John Robshaw Bedding collection (above and below)

If you are ever in Venice...this store is a "must stop by"...here's the info:

By the way, I LOVE that Casamidy chair...it's been around for awhile but it never gets old...also love the Louis XIV Chair in the Varenne Line too...modern classics!

GIRLY CHANDELIERS - LUSCIOUS LIGHTING WITH A FEMININE TOUCH!

ZGallerie - Bellina Chandelier Platinum - $349 (8 arm chandelier features ornamented clear glass beads that hang from cast iron leaves. Platinum finish.)(above)

This is a left over post from LIGHTING WEEK. I have a few of these posts standing by...ready to be published. Have to space them out so it doesn't look I'm doing LIGHTING WEEK again.

So here are some frilly, delicate and airy chandeliers that I cannot imagine in a bachelor's home. They ooze girl/woman/lady to me. I like them because they are not too over the top...but all could soften a room with a light feminine touch!

The glass ones are not at all that girly girl but I like the curvy lines and their diaphanous structures...so I just snuck them into this installment. :-)

Layla Grayce - Arteriors Southampton 3 Light Iron/Shell Chandelier - $698 (Natural shell and painted silver iron chandelier)(above)

Maison Luxe - Swedish Chandelier - $1,225 (Traditional chandelier made of crystal and brass)(above)

Plantation Designs - Horgan Nickel & Glass Chandelier - $1,249 (Transitional chandelier finished in polished nickel with glass accents.)(above)

A JOHN DERIAN DECOUPAGE TRAY I LIKE!

Auto - John Derian Rectangular Maze Tray - $110 (Decoupage tray with geometric design in greens, yellow, red and off white)(above)

I like this John Derian tray. I am surprised.

I know people are crazed about John Derian. So for those of you who are "believers"...please bear with me on this. I am not crazed. I have been trying to understand the John Derian phenomenon for years. Decoupage stuff. What's the big deal? I had this boss who used to scrapbook and craft all of the time...she loved to do her own decoupage pieces and insisted that people that worked for her do decoupage themselves. I was amused by her obsession but not that overwhelmed by the end result. Maybe this boss tainted my view on all things decoupage!

I was at the New York International Gift Fair this past summer with AM and saw throngs of people swarming the John Derian booth - all frenzied and excited to caress, feel, see and experience the latest John Derian. AM herself dashed into the booth...leaving me in her wake...she was one of the frenzied ones. I went in. I picked up a plate, paperweight and a variety of other items and I still didn't get it. There I was...part of the not clued in crowd...in the middle of the John Derian booth...in the middle of frenzied crowd of women who were devotees. It was a very lonely place to be. LOL!

Anyhoooo....enough on that and back to this tray...

So until this tray...I had not really understood the John Derian allure. To me this tray is quite fab. Love the geometric shapes...love the colors. It is perfect. I would put it in my home. Cute on a side table or a coffee table in my living room. Could also make a good gift for a John Derian devotee.

So while I am probably not a John Derian fanatic...I may be edging towards being more open minded...let's see what I can find next.

Derian devotees...please don't hate me for having different tastes! :-)

A MODERN ROOM WITH A VIEW!

Photo courtesy of Bob O'Connor Photography

Floor to ceiling wrap around windows in a mid century modern home provide a great outdoor backdrop. The windows help highlight a bright living room that plays host to some modern furniture classics. A Noguchi glass coffee table and a red Eero Saarinen Womb Chair - both designed in the 1940s - are key to bringing simple modern style to this home's living space. (above)

I like this room. Simple. Modern (am now thinking modern after this weekend's festivities). Refreshing. The floor to ceiling windows are just right. I always believe there can never be too much natural light in a space...especially when the light comes along with gorgeous views. Love the trees and woods - perfectly framed by the slanted roof line. Love the muted whites, the taupe sofa and sectional, and the pops of yellow and reds - an effortless balance of color and neutrals. Ahhhh....

MOCA NEW: DESIGNS ON A BLACK-TIE MUSEUM GALA!

All photos in this post by Coco of Cococozy

Nearly a thousand art supporters came out to a black-tie event for MOCA's 30th anniversary. A huge tent was staged right on Grand Avenue in order to house the elegant dining area and the stage for the night's performances. (above)

Okay...last night was FANTASTIC. Went to the annual Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) black-tie gala.

After a day of indecision as to whether I was feeling up for going...I finally decided cold or no cold I'm going...I bit the bullet at 5:30p, whipped on my Badgely Mischka black evening gown and at 6:00pm zipped off to this annual fete with sister DS (who was looking stunning in a simple black Dolce & Gabbana dress, a fab beaded necklace thing and to die for Prada shoes).

Anyhoooooo...off we went to MOCA to help celebrate the museum's 30th anniversary. Every year the gala is just amazing. Under the previous museum director Jeremy Strick, these parties were just stunningly dramatic and elegant - like no other parties I had ever been to. Strick was the one who kicked off this whole idea of a gala for the museum years ago and raised the profile of the institution 100-fold during his tenure.

We've been big supporters of the museum for years (and dare I say probably even bigger supporters once all of the chic parties started...is that bad?...I know...it is all about the art...I know...). So attending this year's event was a social no-brainer for me and my sister.

We arrived to see a humongous tent had been constructed right on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles with the Walt Disney Concert Hall looming in the background. It was quite a spectacular sight.

The valet ushered us out of our car, we checked in and were immediately rushed towards that night's equivalent of a red carpet (it was pink). In front of us, an older woman sporting a large fur coat (in L.A. mind you) was clearly surprised by the spectacle of the event and the grandeur of the entrance; I heard this older woman say to the museum usher, "Do we really have to walk through all of this?"...she was referring to the scene of hundreds of paparazzi, camera crews and bright lights. The museum usher responded, "Yes ma'am. This is the only way into the event."

With that said...off we went down the "red carpet"...

My favorite part of this evening was being reunited with MOCA's incredible permanent collection which includes this Mark Rothko painting that I hadn't seen in decades. This view is during the cocktail hour as guests wandered through the museums formidable collection that includes the masters of modern and contemporary art...Rothko, Poll0ck, Lichtenstein, Picasso, Rauchenberg and so many more. (above)

It was the who's who of Los Angeles. Politicians, business people, artists, celebrities and so many other luminaries from the community...all mingling and greeting during the cocktail hour (it was actual two hours).

I must say, my one critique of the event is that there may have been too many celebrities there for my taste (can there ever be too many celebrities? Yes, she emphatically replies after living in Los Angeles all of her life)...it felt a bit like attending the Emmys or a cheesy Hollywood party in that respect. Whoa is me...I bore with all of the stars and the likes....I made it through the treachery of too many celebrities, champagne, glitz, glamour and good times (I am being facetious...I think...). Let's see...I might as well go through the list of famous faces I saw during the cocktail hour...Zoe Saldana, Christina Ricci, Marisa Tomei, Chris O'Donnell, Jessica Alba, Guy Ritchie (I think or at least a guy who looked like Guy Ritchie), Eva Mendes. Kate Beckinsale, and the entire soap opera cast of The Young & the Restless (yes, that's right).... etc...etc...blah blah blah... (Oh...just looked on the internet and saw that Brad and Angelina were there too...well who knew...).

Celebs schmlebs...I was most thrilled when we ran into renowned L.A. contemporary artist Mark Bradford. My sister and I have met Mark over the years, loved his work and watched his career sky rocket. We sidled up to Mark in order to say our usual art party hellos and were absolutely ecstatic after to have seen and spoken to this art superstar once again.

Anyhooo...

Then it was into the dinner tent and a performance by Lady Gaga and the Bolshoi Ballet dancers....

The tent was draped in red, with large crystal chandeliers, long tables draped in red with gold accents everywhere...Rococo was the goal. (above)

Lady Gaga and the Bolshoi Ballet perform on stage at MOCA New - the museum's 30th Anniversary Gala.(above)

We left the delightful dinner before dessert arrived...we left feeling good about Los Angeles, MOCA and hopeful for the future of contemporary art in our city of angels!

What a great night. :-)
